Specifically, we consider the partition of the mosaic into intervals of the radius function and determine the expected number of intervals whose radii are less than or equal to a given threshold. We find that the expectations are essentially the same as for the Poisson–Delaunay mosaic in n-dimensional Euclidean space. Assuming the points are not contained in a hemisphere, the Delaunay mosaic is isomorphic to the boundary complex of the convex hull in Rn+1, so we also get the expected number of faces of a random inscribed polytope. As proved in Antonelli et al. [Adv. in Appl. Probab. 9–12 (1977–1980)], an orthant section of the n-sphere is isometric to the standard n-simplex equipped with the Fisher information metric. It follows that the latter space has similar stochastic properties as the n-dimensional Euclidean space. Our results are therefore relevant in information geometry and in population genetics."}],"oa_version":"Preprint","publisher":"Institute of Mathematical Statistics","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://arxiv.org/abs/1705.02870","open_access":"1"}],"external_id":{"arxiv":["1705.02870"],"isi":["000442893500018"]},"date_updated":"2026-04-08T14:19:30Z","quality_controlled":"1","month":"10","volume":28,"publist_id":"7967","title":"Random inscribed polytopes have similar radius functions as Poisson-Delaunay mosaics","arxiv":1,"article_processing_charge":"No","date_published":"2018-10-01T00:00:00Z","isi":1},{"year":"2018","date_created":"2018-12-11T11:49:10Z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"ddc":["581"],"author":[{"full_name":"Tejos, Ricardo","first_name":"Ricardo","last_name":"Tejos"},{"full_name":"Rodríguez Furlán, Cecilia","first_name":"Cecilia","last_name":"Rodríguez Furlán"},{"orcid":"0000-0001-6463-5257","last_name":"Adamowski","first_name":"Maciek","full_name":"Adamowski, Maciek","id":"45F536D2-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87"},{"full_name":"Sauer, Michael","first_name":"Michael","last_name":"Sauer"},{"first_name":"Lorena","last_name":"Norambuena","full_name":"Norambuena, Lorena"},{"full_name":"Friml, Jirí","id":"4159519E-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","orcid":"0000-0002-8302-7596","last_name":"Friml","first_name":"Jirí"}],"file_date_updated":"2020-07-14T12:48:15Z","pubrep_id":"988","intvolume":" 131","publication_status":"published","oa":1,"doi":"10.1242/jcs.204198","file":[{"date_created":"2019-04-12T08:46:32Z","file_id":"6299","creator":"dernst","checksum":"bf156c20a4f117b4b932370d54cbac8c","file_name":"2017_adamowski_PATELLINS_are.pdf","access_level":"open_access","file_size":14925985,"relation":"main_file","content_type":"application/pdf","date_updated":"2020-07-14T12:48:15Z"}],"project":[{"grant_number":"282300","_id":"25716A02-B435-11E9-9278-68D0E5697425","call_identifier":"FP7","name":"Polarity and subcellular dynamics in plants"}],"_id":"913","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","ec_funded":1,"department":[{"_id":"JiFr"}],"issue":"2","has_accepted_license":"1","day":"29","publication":"Journal of Cell Science","corr_author":"1","publist_id":"6530","volume":131,"article_processing_charge":"No","date_published":"2018-01-29T00:00:00Z","isi":1,"title":"PATELLINS are regulators of auxin mediated PIN1 relocation and plant development in Arabidopsis thaliana","quality_controlled":"1","date_updated":"2025-07-10T12:01:38Z","external_id":{"isi":["000424842400019"]},"month":"01","citation":{"mla":"Tejos, Ricardo, et al. “PATELLINS Are Regulators of Auxin Mediated PIN1 Relocation and Plant Development in Arabidopsis Thaliana.” Journal of Cell Science, vol. 131, no. 2, jcs. 204198, Company of Biologists, 2018, doi:10.1242/jcs.204198.","ista":"Tejos R, Rodríguez Furlán C, Adamowski M, Sauer M, Norambuena L, Friml J. 2018. In plants, a directional distribution of the plant hormone auxin is at the core of many developmental programs. A feedback regulation of auxin on the polarized localization of PIN auxin transporters in individual cells has been proposed as a self-organizing mechanism for coordinated tissue polarization, but the molecular mechanisms linking auxin signalling to PIN-dependent auxin transport remain unknown. We performed a microarray-based approach to find regulators of the auxin-induced PIN relocation in the Arabidopsis thaliana root. We identified a subset of a family of phosphatidylinositol transfer proteins (PITP), the PATELLINs (PATL). Here, we show that PATLs are expressed in partially overlapping cells types in different tissues going through mitosis or initiating differentiation programs. PATLs are plasma membrane-associated proteins accumulated in Arabidopsis embryos, primary roots, lateral root primordia, and developing stomata. Higher order patl mutants display reduced PIN1 repolarization in response to auxin, shorter root apical meristem, and drastic defects in embryo and seedling development. This suggests PATLs redundantly play a crucial role in polarity and patterning in Arabidopsis.","lang":"eng"}],"oa_version":"Published Version","publisher":"Company of Biologists","status":"public","type":"journal_article","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0021-9533"]}},{"article_type":"letter_note","alternative_title":["Molecular and cellular neuroscience"],"date_created":"2021-03-07T23:01:25Z","year":"2018","intvolume":" 4","doi":"10.20388/omp2018.00s1.001","publication_status":"published","oa":1,"author":[{"full_name":"Danzl, Johann G","id":"42EFD3B6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","orcid":"0000-0001-8559-3973","first_name":"Johann G","last_name":"Danzl"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"ddc":["570"],"page":"11","department":[{"_id":"JoDa"}],"issue":"S1","_id":"9229","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","publication":"Opera Medica et Physiologica","day":"30","article_processing_charge":"No","date_published":"2018-06-30T00:00:00Z","title":"Diffraction-unlimited optical imaging for synaptic physiology","volume":4,"month":"06","date_updated":"2026-06-18T19:43:22Z","quality_controlled":"1","main_file_link":[{"url":"http://operamedphys.org/content/molecular-and-cellular-neuroscience","open_access":"1"}],"publisher":"Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod","oa_version":"Published Version","citation":{"apa":"Danzl, J. Targets of DME-mediated DNA demethylation reside in small, euchromatic, AT-rich transposons and at the boundaries of large transposons, but how DME interacts with these diverse chromatin states is unknown. The STRUCTURE SPECIFIC RECOGNITION PROTEIN 1 (SSRP1) subunit of the chromatin remodeler FACT (facilitates chromatin transactions), was previously shown to be involved in the DME-dependent regulation of genomic imprinting in Arabidopsis endosperm. Therefore, to investigate the interaction between DME and chromatin, we focused on the activity of the two FACT subunits, SSRP1 and SUPPRESSOR of TY16 (SPT16), during reproduction in Arabidopsis. We found that FACT colocalizes with nuclear DME in vivo, and that DME has two classes of target sites, the first being euchromatic and accessible to DME, but the second, representing over half of DME targets, requiring the action of FACT for DME-mediated DNA demethylation genome-wide. Our results show that the FACT-dependent DME targets are GC-rich heterochromatin domains with high nucleosome occupancy enriched with H3K9me2 and H3K27me1. Further, we demonstrate that heterochromatin-associated linker histone H1 specifically mediates the requirement for FACT at a subset of DME-target loci. Overall, our results demonstrate that FACT is required for DME targeting by facilitating its access to heterochromatin.","lang":"eng"}],"citation":{"ieee":"J. M. However, biases in discovery and reporting of inversions make it difficult to assess their prevalence and biological importance. Here, we use an approach based on linkage disequilibrium among markers genotyped for samples collected across a transect between contrasting habitats to detect chromosomal rearrangements de novo. We report 17 polymorphic rearrangements in a single locality for the coastal marine snail, Littorina saxatilis. Patterns of diversity in the field and of recombination in controlled crosses provide strong evidence that at least the majority of these rearrangements are inversions. Most show clinal changes in frequency between habitats, suggestive of divergent selection, but only one appears to be fixed for different arrangements in the two habitats. Consistent with widespread evidence for balancing selection on inversion polymorphisms, we argue that a combination of heterosis and divergent selection can explain the observed patterns and should be considered in other systems spanning environmental gradients.","lang":"eng"}],"citation":{"ieee":"R. Facial features reflect the underlying geometry of the skeletal structures. Here we reveal that cartilaginous nasal capsule (corresponding to upper jaw and face) is shaped by signals generated by neural structures: brain and olfactory epithelium. Brain-derived Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) enables the induction of nasal septum and posterior nasal capsule, whereas the formation of a capsule roof is controlled by signals from the olfactory epithelium. Unexpectedly, the cartilage of the nasal capsule turned out to be important for shaping membranous facial bones during development. This suggests that conserved neurosensory structures could benefit from protection and have evolved signals inducing cranial cartilages encasing them. Experiments with mutant mice revealed that the genomic regulatory regions controlling production of SHH in the nervous system contribute to facial cartilage morphogenesis, which might be a mechanism responsible for the adaptive evolution of animal faces and snouts.","lang":"eng"}],"oa_version":"Published Version","_id":"9838","user_id":"6785fbc1-c503-11eb-8a32-93094b40e1cf","department":[{"_id":"AnKi"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.f1s76f2","open_access":"1"}],"publisher":"Dryad","day":"14","related_material":{"record":[{"relation":"used_in_publication","id":"162","status":"public"}]},"status":"public","type":"research_data_reference"},{"citation":{"ama":"Payne P, Geyrhofer L, Barton NH, Bollback JP. Even though bacteria have evolved multiple immune systems against their phage pathogens, herd immunity in bacteria remains unexplored. Here we experimentally demonstrate that herd immunity arises during phage epidemics in structured and unstructured Escherichia coli populations consisting of differing frequencies of susceptible and resistant cells harboring CRISPR immunity. In addition, we develop a mathematical model that quantifies how herd immunity is affected by spatial population structure, bacterial growth rate, and phage replication rate. Using our model we infer a general epidemiological rule describing the relative speed of an epidemic in partially resistant spatially structured populations. Our experimental and theoretical findings indicate that herd immunity may be important in bacterial communities, allowing for stable coexistence of bacteria and their phages and the maintenance of polymorphism in bacterial immunity."}],"oa_version":"Published Version","user_id":"6785fbc1-c503-11eb-8a32-93094b40e1cf","_id":"9840","department":[{"_id":"NiBa"},{"_id":"JoBo"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.42n44","open_access":"1"}],"publisher":"Dryad","day":"12","related_material":{"record":[{"status":"public","relation":"used_in_publication","id":"423"}]},"status":"public","type":"research_data_reference","year":"2018","article_processing_charge":"No","date_published":"2018-03-12T00:00:00Z","title":"Data from: CRISPR-based herd immunity limits phage epidemics in bacterial populations","date_created":"2021-08-09T13:10:02Z","date_updated":"2025-04-15T08:17:50Z","author":[{"full_name":"Payne, Pavel","id":"35F78294-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","orcid":"0000-0002-2711-9453","first_name":"Pavel","last_name":"Payne"},{"last_name":"Geyrhofer","first_name":"Lukas","full_name":"Geyrhofer, Lukas"},{"full_name":"Barton, Nicholas H","id":"4880FE40-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","orcid":"0000-0002-8548-5240","last_name":"Barton","first_name":"Nicholas H"},{"full_name":"Bollback, Jonathan P","id":"2C6FA9CC-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","orcid":"0000-0002-4624-4612","first_name":"Jonathan P","last_name":"Bollback"}],"oa":1,"month":"03","doi":"10.5061/dryad.42n44"},{"publisher":"Dryad","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.51d4r"}],"_id":"9841","user_id":"6785fbc1-c503-11eb-8a32-93094b40e1cf","department":[{"_id":"BeVi"}],"citation":{"ieee":"M. Here, we report the 2-Gb genome of the German cockroach, Blattella germanica, and the 1.3-Gb genome of the drywood termite Cryptotermes secundus. We show evolutionary signatures of termite eusociality by comparing the genomes and transcriptomes of three termites and the cockroach against the background of 16 other eusocial and non-eusocial insects. Dramatic adaptive changes in genes underlying the production and perception of pheromones confirm the importance of chemical communication in the termites. These are accompanied by major changes in gene regulation and the molecular evolution of caste determination. Many of these results parallel molecular mechanisms of eusocial evolution in Hymenoptera. However, the specific solutions are remarkably different, thus revealing a striking case of convergence in one of the major evolutionary transitions in biological complexity.","lang":"eng"}],"oa_version":"Published Version","type":"research_data_reference","status":"public","related_material":{"record":[{"status":"public","relation":"used_in_publication","id":"448"}]},"day":"12","title":"Data from: Hemimetabolous genomes reveal molecular basis of termite eusociality","date_created":"2021-08-09T13:13:48Z","date_published":"2018-12-12T00:00:00Z","article_processing_charge":"No","year":"2018","oa":1,"month":"12","doi":"10.5061/dryad.51d4r","date_updated":"2023-09-11T14:10:56Z","author":[{"full_name":"Harrison, Mark C.","first_name":"Mark C.","last_name":"Harrison"},{"last_name":"Jongepier","first_name":"Evelien","full_name":"Jongepier, Evelien"},{"first_name":"Hugh M.","last_name":"Robertson","full_name":"Robertson, Hugh M."},{"full_name":"Arning, Nicolas","last_name":"Arning","first_name":"Nicolas"},{"first_name":"Tristan","last_name":"Bitard-Feildel","full_name":"Bitard-Feildel, Tristan"},{"full_name":"Chao, Hsu","first_name":"Hsu","last_name":"Chao"},{"full_name":"Childers, Christopher P.","last_name":"Childers","first_name":"Christopher P."},{"full_name":"Dinh, Huyen","first_name":"Huyen","last_name":"Dinh"},{"full_name":"Doddapaneni, Harshavardhan","last_name":"Doddapaneni","first_name":"Harshavardhan"},{"full_name":"Dugan, Shannon","last_name":"Dugan","first_name":"Shannon"},{"first_name":"Johannes","last_name":"Gowin","full_name":"Gowin, Johannes"},{"full_name":"Greiner, Carolin","last_name":"Greiner","first_name":"Carolin"},{"full_name":"Han, Yi","first_name":"Yi","last_name":"Han"},{"full_name":"Hu, Haofu","first_name":"Haofu","last_name":"Hu"},{"first_name":"Daniel S. How the T cell actomyosin cytoskeleton facilitates this task in distinct environments is incompletely understood. Here, we show that lack of Myosin IXb (Myo9b), a negative regulator of the small GTPase Rho, led to increased Rho-GTP levels and cell surface stiffness in primary T cells. Nonetheless, intravital imaging revealed robust motility of Myo9b−/− CD8+ T cells in lymphoid tissue and similar expansion and differentiation during immune responses. In contrast, accumulation of Myo9b−/− CD8+ T cells in NLTs was strongly impaired. Specifically, Myo9b was required for T cell crossing of basement membranes, such as those which are present between dermis and epidermis. As consequence, Myo9b−/− CD8+ T cells showed impaired control of skin infections. In sum, we show that Myo9b is critical for the CD8+ T cell adaptation from lymphoid to NLT surveillance and the establishment of protective tissue–resident T cell populations."}],"oa_version":"Published Version","month":"06","external_id":{"isi":["000440822900011"]},"license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/","quality_controlled":"1","date_updated":"2023-09-19T14:52:08Z","title":"The Rho regulator Myosin IXb enables nonlymphoid tissue seeding of protective CD8+T cells","date_published":"2018-06-06T00:00:00Z","article_processing_charge":"No","isi":1,"volume":2015},{"publication":"EMBO reports","day":"01","tmp":{"short":"CC BY (4.0)","name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY 4.0)","image":"/images/cc_by.png","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode"},"has_accepted_license":"1","_id":"6499","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","issue":"9","department":[{"_id":"JoDa"}],"intvolume":" 19","oa":1,"publication_status":"published","file":[{"content_type":"application/pdf","relation":"main_file","date_updated":"2020-07-14T12:47:32Z","file_size":2005572,"file_name":"2018_embo_Truckenbrodt.pdf","access_level":"open_access","checksum":"6ec90abc637f09cca3a7b6424d7e7a26","creator":"kschuh","file_id":"6500","date_created":"2019-05-28T13:17:19Z"}],"doi":"10.15252/embr.201845836","ddc":["580"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"author":[{"full_name":"Truckenbrodt, Sven M","id":"45812BD4-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","last_name":"Truckenbrodt","first_name":"Sven M"},{"full_name":"Maidorn, Manuel","last_name":"Maidorn","first_name":"Manuel"},{"full_name":"Crzan, Dagmar","first_name":"Dagmar","last_name":"Crzan"},{"full_name":"Wildhagen, Hanna","first_name":"Hanna","last_name":"Wildhagen"},{"last_name":"Kabatas","first_name":"Selda","full_name":"Kabatas, Selda"},{"first_name":"Silvio O","last_name":"Rizzoli","full_name":"Rizzoli, Silvio O"}],"file_date_updated":"2020-07-14T12:47:32Z","date_created":"2019-05-28T13:16:08Z","year":"2018","status":"public","type":"journal_article","publication_identifier":{"issn":["1469-221X"],"eissn":["1469-3178"]},"publisher":"Embo Press","article_number":"e45836","citation":{"chicago":"Truckenbrodt, Sven M, Manuel Maidorn, Dagmar Crzan, Hanna Wildhagen, Selda Kabatas, and Silvio O Rizzoli. “X10 Expansion Microscopy Enables 25‐nm Resolution on Conventional Microscopes.” EMBO Reports. The resolution attained is, correspondingly, approximately fourfold better than the diffraction limit, or ~70 nm. This is a major improvement over conventional microscopy, but still lags behind modern STED or STORM setups, whose resolution can reach 20–30 nm. We addressed this issue here by introducing an improved gel recipe that enables an expansion factor of ~10× in each dimension, which corresponds to an expansion of the sample volume by more than 1,000‐fold. Our protocol, which we termed X10 microscopy, achieves a resolution of 25–30 nm on conventional epifluorescence microscopes. X10 provides multi‐color images similar or even superior to those produced with more challenging methods, such as STED, STORM, and iterative expansion microscopy (iExM). X10 is therefore the cheapest and easiest option for high‐quality super‐resolution imaging currently available. X10 should be usable in any laboratory, irrespective of the machinery owned or of the technical knowledge.","lang":"eng"}],"scopus_import":"1","oa_version":"Published Version","month":"09","date_updated":"2024-12-11T11:48:40Z","quality_controlled":"1","external_id":{"isi":["000443682200009"]},"article_processing_charge":"No","date_published":"2018-09-01T00:00:00Z","isi":1,"title":"X10 expansion microscopy enables 25‐nm resolution on conventional microscopes","volume":19},{"department":[{"_id":"TaHa"}],"user_id":"ba8df636-2132-11f1-aed0-ed93e2281fdd","_id":"6525","oa_version":"None","citation":{"mla":"Hausel, Tamás, et al. “Mirror Symmetry with Branes by Equivariant Verlinde Formulas.” Geometry and Physics: Volume I, Oxford University Press, 2018, pp. 189–218, doi:10.1093/oso/9780198802013.003.0009.","short":"T.
