text: We show that Laplace isospectral deformations within a conformal class of
generic Liouville metrics on the two-dimensional torus that are linear in the
deformation parameter are necessarily trivial. Two of the main ingredients in
our proof are a noncancellation result for the wave trace and an analysis of the
second order variational formula for the energy functional associated to closed
geodesics. Noncancellation allows us to detect parts of the length spectrum from
the Laplace spectrum and conclude rational integrability for the deformed geodesic
flow (Liouville metrics are folklorically conjectured to be the only Riemannian
metrics with integrable geodesic flow on the torus). We then use the second variational
formula to show how the preservation of a single rational torus is sufficient
to conclude triviality of the deformation, assuming linearity. We also present
some evidence that our hypothesis of linearity may indeed be necessary.

text: We construct nontrivial deformations of the standard map which preserve the
symplectic actions, respectively the Lyapunov exponents, of infinitely many periodic
orbits accumulating to an invariant curve. The proof uses a resonant normal-form
construction to obtain a sequence of periodic orbits accumulating on an invariant
curve with a Liouville rotation number. Within these normal forms we capture the
dependence of these periodic orbits on the resonant Fourier coefficients of the
dynamics on the invariant curve and, using the contraction mapping principle,
obtain a suitable deformation achieving the prescribed spectral data associated
with this sequence of orbits. The result can be viewed as a symplectic twist-map
analogue of a length spectral nonrigidity phenomenon for Riemannian manifolds
and convex billiards, and it motivates the existence problem for similar 'partially
length-isospectral' deformations of strictly convex billiard tables.

text: In this paper we consider the stochastic primitive equation for geophysical
flows subject to transport noise and turbulent pressure. Admitting very rough
noise terms, the global existence and uniqueness of solutions to this stochastic
partial differential equation are proven using stochastic maximal L² regularity,
the theory of critical spaces for stochastic evolution equations, and global a
priori bounds. Compared to other results in this direction, we do not need any
smallness assumption on the transport noise which acts directly on the velocity
field and we also allow rougher noise terms. The adaptation to Stratonovich type
noise and, more generally, to variable viscosity and/or conductivity are discussed
as well.

text: We prove a version of the tamely ramified geometric Langlands correspondence
in positive characteristic for GLn(k). Let k be an algebraically closed field
of characteristic p>n. Let X be a smooth projective curve over k with marked points,
and fix a parabolic subgroup of GLn(k) at each marked point. We denote by Bunn,P
the moduli stack of (quasi-)parabolic vector bundles on X, and by Locn,P the moduli
stack of parabolic flat connections such that the residue is nilpotent with respect
to the parabolic reduction at each marked point. We construct an equivalence between
the bounded derived category Db(Qcoh(Loc0n,P)) of quasi-coherent sheaves on an
open substack Loc0n,P⊂Locn,P, and the bounded derived category Db(D0Bunn,P-mod)
of D0Bunn,P-modules, where D0Bunn,P is a localization of DBunn,P the sheaf of
crystalline differential operators on Bunn,P. Thus we extend the work of Bezrukavnikov-Braverman
to the tamely ramified case. We also prove a correspondence between flat connections
on X with regular singularities and meromorphic Higgs bundles on the Frobenius
twist X(1) of X with first order poles .

text: 'A shared-memory counter is a widely-used and well-studied concurrent object.
It supports two operations: An Inc operation that increases its value by 1 and
a Read operation that returns its current value. In Jayanti et al (SIAM J Comput,
30(2), 2000), Jayanti, Tan and Toueg proved a linear lower bound on the worst-case
step complexity of obstruction-free implementations, from read-write registers,
of a large class of shared objects that includes counters. The lower bound leaves
open the question of finding counter implementations with sub-linear amortized
step complexity. In this work, we address this gap. We show that n-process, wait-free
and linearizable counters can be implemented from read-write registers with O(log2n)
amortized step complexity. This is the first counter algorithm from read-write
registers that provides sub-linear amortized step complexity in executions of
arbitrary length. Since a logarithmic lower bound on the amortized step complexity
of obstruction-free counter implementations exists, our upper bound is within
a logarithmic factor of the optimal. The worst-case step complexity of the construction
remains linear, which is optimal. This is obtained thanks to a new max register
construction with O(logn) amortized step complexity in executions of arbitrary
length in which the value stored in the register does not grow too quickly. We
then leverage an existing counter algorithm by Aspnes, Attiya and Censor-Hillel
[1] in which we “plug” our max register implementation to show that it remains
linearizable while achieving O(log2n) amortized step complexity.'

text: We present criteria for establishing a triangulation of a manifold. Given
a manifold M, a simplicial complex A, and a map H from the underlying space of
A to M, our criteria are presented in local coordinate charts for M, and ensure
that H is a homeomorphism. These criteria do not require a differentiable structure,
or even an explicit metric on M. No Delaunay property of A is assumed. The result
provides a triangulation guarantee for algorithms that construct a simplicial
complex by working in local coordinate patches. Because the criteria are easily
verified in such a setting, they are expected to be of general use.

text: 'he approximate graph coloring problem, whose complexity is unresolved in
most cases, concerns finding a c-coloring of a graph that is promised to be k-colorable,
where c≥k. This problem naturally generalizes to promise graph homomorphism problems
and further to promise constraint satisfaction problems. The complexity of these
problems has recently been studied through an algebraic approach. In this paper,
we introduce two new techniques to analyze the complexity of promise CSPs: one
is based on topology and the other on adjunction. We apply these techniques, together
with the previously introduced algebraic approach, to obtain new unconditional
NP-hardness results for a significant class of approximate graph coloring and
promise graph homomorphism problems.'

text: "An n-vertex graph is called C-Ramsey if it has no clique or independent set
of size Clog2n (i.e., if it has near-optimal Ramsey behavior). In this paper,
we study edge statistics in Ramsey graphs, in particular obtaining very precise
control of the distribution of the number of edges in a random vertex subset of
a C-Ramsey graph. This brings together two ongoing lines of research: the study
of ‘random-like’ properties of Ramsey graphs and the study of small-ball probability
for low-degree polynomials of independent random variables.\r\n\r\nThe proof proceeds
via an ‘additive structure’ dichotomy on the degree sequence and involves a wide
range of different tools from Fourier analysis, random matrix theory, the theory
of Boolean functions, probabilistic combinatorics and low-rank approximation.
In particular, a key ingredient is a new sharpened version of the quadratic Carbery–Wright
theorem on small-ball probability for polynomials of Gaussians, which we believe
is of independent interest. One of the consequences of our result is the resolution
of an old conjecture of Erdős and McKay, for which Erdős reiterated in several
of his open problem collections and for which he offered one of his notorious
monetary prizes."

text: 'John’s fundamental theorem characterizing the largest volume ellipsoid contained
in a convex body $K$ in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ has seen several generalizations and
extensions. One direction, initiated by V. Milman is to replace ellipsoids by
positions (affine images) of another body $L$. Another, more recent direction
is to consider logarithmically concave functions on $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ instead of
convex bodies: we designate some special, radially symmetric log-concave function
$g$ as the analogue of the Euclidean ball, and want to find its largest integral
position under the constraint that it is pointwise below some given log-concave
function $f$. We follow both directions simultaneously: we consider the functional
question, and allow essentially any meaningful function to play the role of $g$
above. Our general theorems jointly extend known results in both directions. The
dual problem in the setting of convex bodies asks for the smallest volume ellipsoid,
called Löwner’s ellipsoid, containing $K$. We consider the analogous problem for
functions: we characterize the solutions of the optimization problem of finding
a smallest integral position of some log-concave function $g$ under the constraint
that it is pointwise above $f$. It turns out that in the functional setting, the
relationship between the John and the Löwner problems is more intricate than it
is in the setting of convex bodies.'

text: Attempts to incorporate topological information in supervised learning tasks
have resulted in the creation of several techniques for vectorizing persistent
homology barcodes. In this paper, we study thirteen such methods. Besides describing
an organizational framework for these methods, we comprehensively benchmark them
against three well-known classification tasks. Surprisingly, we discover that
the best-performing method is a simple vectorization, which consists only of a
few elementary summary statistics. Finally, we provide a convenient web application
which has been designed to facilitate exploration and experimentation with various
vectorization methods.

text: The large-scale laminar/turbulent spiral patterns that appear in the linearly
unstable regime of counter-rotating Taylor–Couette flow are investigated from
a statistical perspective by means of direct numerical simulation. Unlike the
vast majority of previous numerical studies, we analyse the flow in periodic parallelogram-annular
domains, following a coordinate change that aligns one of the parallelogram sides
with the spiral pattern. The domain size, shape and spatial resolution have been
varied and the results compared with those in a sufficiently large computational
orthogonal domain with natural axial and azimuthal periodicity. We find that a
minimal parallelogram of the right tilt significantly reduces the computational
cost without notably compromising the statistical properties of the supercritical
turbulent spiral. Its mean structure, obtained from extremely long time integrations
in a co-rotating reference frame using the method of slices, bears remarkable
similarity with the turbulent stripes observed in plane Couette flow, the centrifugal
instability playing only a secondary role.

text: We consider the sharp interface limit for the scalar-valued and vector-valued
Allen–Cahn equation with homogeneous Neumann boundary condition in a bounded smooth
domain Ω of arbitrary dimension N ⩾ 2 in the situation when a two-phase diffuse
interface has developed and intersects the boundary ∂ Ω. The limit problem is
mean curvature flow with 90°-contact angle and we show convergence in strong norms
for well-prepared initial data as long as a smooth solution to the limit problem
exists. To this end we assume that the limit problem has a smooth solution on
[ 0 , T ] for some time T > 0. Based on the latter we construct suitable curvilinear
coordinates and set up an asymptotic expansion for the scalar-valued and the vector-valued
Allen–Cahn equation. In order to estimate the difference of the exact and approximate
solutions with a Gronwall-type argument, a spectral estimate for the linearized
Allen–Cahn operator in both cases is required. The latter will be shown in a separate
paper, cf. (Moser (2021)).

text: In this paper, we study the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the spiked invariant
multiplicative models when the randomness is from Haar matrices. We establish
the limits of the outlier eigenvalues λˆi and the generalized components (⟨v,uˆi⟩
for any deterministic vector v) of the outlier eigenvectors uˆi with optimal convergence
rates. Moreover, we prove that the non-outlier eigenvalues stick with those of
the unspiked matrices and the non-outlier eigenvectors are delocalized. The results
also hold near the so-called BBP transition and for degenerate spikes. On one
hand, our results can be regarded as a refinement of the counterparts of [12]
under additional regularity conditions. On the other hand, they can be viewed
as an analog of [34] by replacing the random matrix with i.i.d. entries with Haar
random matrix.

text: We determine the unique factorization of some polynomials over a finite local
commutative ring with identity explicitly. This solves and generalizes the main
conjecture of Qian, Shi and Solé in [13]. We also give some applications to enumeration
of certain generalized double circulant self-dual and linear complementary dual
(LCD) codes over some finite rings together with an application in asymptotic
coding theory.

text: We consider a correlated NxN Hermitian random matrix with a polynomially decaying

text: Multistable systems are characterized by exhibiting domain coexistence, where
each domain accounts for the different equilibrium states. In case these systems
are described by vectorial fields, domains can be connected through topological
defects. Vortices are one of the most frequent and studied topological defect
points. Optical vortices are equally relevant for their fundamental features as
beams with topological features and their applications in image processing, telecommunications,
optical tweezers, and quantum information. A natural source of optical vortices
is the interaction of light beams with matter vortices in liquid crystal cells.
The rhythms that govern the emergence of matter vortices due to fluctuations are
not established. Here, we investigate the nucleation mechanisms of the matter
vortices in liquid crystal cells and establish statistical laws that govern them.
Based on a stochastic amplitude equation, the law for the number of nucleated
vortices as a function of anisotropy, voltage, and noise level intensity is set.
Experimental observations in a nematic liquid crystal cell with homeotropic anchoring
and a negative anisotropic dielectric constant under the influence of a transversal
electric field show a qualitative agreement with the theoretical findings.

text: Empirical essays of fitness landscapes suggest that they may be rugged, that
is having multiple fitness peaks. Such fitness landscapes, those that have multiple
peaks, necessarily have special local structures, called reciprocal sign epistasis
(Poelwijk et al. in J Theor Biol 272:141–144, 2011). Here, we investigate the
quantitative relationship between the number of fitness peaks and the number of
reciprocal sign epistatic interactions. Previously, it has been shown (Poelwijk
et al. in J Theor Biol 272:141–144, 2011) that pairwise reciprocal sign epistasis
is a necessary but not sufficient condition for the existence of multiple peaks.
Applying discrete Morse theory, which to our knowledge has never been used in
this context, we extend this result by giving the minimal number of reciprocal
sign epistatic interactions required to create a given number of peaks.

text: "We revisit two basic Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Methods to model aggregation
kinetics and extend them for aggregation processes with collisional fragmentation
(shattering). We test the performance and accuracy of the extended methods and
compare their performance with efficient deterministic finite-difference method
applied to the same model. We validate the stochastic methods on the test problems

text: "We study rigidity of rational maps that come from Newton's root finding method
for polynomials of arbitrary degrees. We establish dynamical rigidity of these
maps: each point in the Julia set of a Newton map is either rigid (i.e. its orbit
can be distinguished in combinatorial terms from all other orbits), or the orbit
of this point eventually lands in the filled-in Julia set of a polynomial-like
restriction of the original map. As a corollary, we show that the Julia sets of
Newton maps in many non-trivial cases are locally connected; in particular, every
cubic Newton map without Siegel points has locally connected Julia set.\r\nIn
the parameter space of Newton maps of arbitrary degree we obtain the following
rigidity result: any two combinatorially equivalent Newton maps are quasiconformally
conjugate in a neighborhood of their Julia sets provided that they either non-renormalizable,
or they are both renormalizable “in the same way”.\r\nOur main tool is a generalized
renormalization concept called “complex box mappings” for which we extend a dynamical
rigidity result by Kozlovski and van Strien so as to include irrationally indifferent
and renormalizable situations."
