[{"type":"journal_article","oa_version":"Published Version","article_type":"original","abstract":[{"text":"Aims. We investigate signatures of pressure extrema on global oscillations in discs.\r\n\r\nMethods. We used the framework of wave topology to establish a generalised local dispersion relation that includes pressure gradients. We highlight the influence of a previously unrecognised epicyclic–acoustic frequency, and we derive an analytical criterion for the existence of a branch of modes transiting between the inertial and the pressure bands, known as topological modes.\r\n\r\nResults. We find that pressure extrema consist of wave guides in which such topological modes propagate. The fundamental mode trapped at a pressure bump can propagate at any frequency, allowing it to resonate with any temporal forcing. Conversely, the fundamental mode associated with a pressure dip propagates at any vertical phase velocity. These specific features make them attractive candidates for future discoseismology.","lang":"eng"}],"title":"Radial modes of pressure bumps and dips in astrophysical discs","_id":"23047","date_created":"2026-10-04T22:01:54Z","author":[{"full_name":"Leclerc, Armand","last_name":"Leclerc","first_name":"Armand","id":"2a1fb1fc-f373-11ef-901a-87cee43a1217"},{"last_name":"Laibe","first_name":"Guillaume","full_name":"Laibe, Guillaume"},{"first_name":"Elliot","last_name":"Lynch","full_name":"Lynch, Elliot"},{"full_name":"Perez, Nicolas","last_name":"Perez","first_name":"Nicolas"}],"status":"public","date_updated":"2026-10-20T08:14:41Z","supplementarymaterial":"yes","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","PlanS_conform":"1","citation":{"chicago":"Leclerc, Armand, Guillaume Laibe, Elliot Lynch, and Nicolas Perez. “Radial Modes of Pressure Bumps and Dips in Astrophysical Discs.” Astronomy & Astrophysics. Research on OoL spans many disciplines, including chemistry, physics, biology, planetary sciences, computer science, and mathematics. The sheer number of different scientific perspectives relevant to the problem has resulted in the coexistence of diverse tools, techniques, data, and software in OoL studies. This has made communication between the disciplines relevant to the OoL extremely difficult because the interpretation of data, analyses, or standards of evidence varies dramatically. Here, we hope to bridge this wide field of study by providing common ground via the consolidation of techniques rather than positing a unifying view on how life emerges. In part 1 of this review, we cover common experimental techniques that have been used significantly in OoL studies in recent years, while in part 2, we review theoretical, computational, and integrative methods. Here, we discuss the use of spectroscopy, spectrometry, chromatography, microscopy, and sequencing methods for characterizing diverse materials. We further discuss the role of data repositories in facilitating the analysis and dissemination of experimental data. This review provides a baseline expectation and understanding of the analytical aspects of origins’ research. Ultimately, we aim to provide an educational tool that can facilitate more post-disciplinary collaborations in OoL research by helping scientists understand what they can do about the problem of life’s origins, rather than telling them how to think about it."}],"article_number":"103212","volume":7,"file":[{"access_level":"open_access","relation":"main_file","creator":"dernst","success":1,"checksum":"e580d22c2874c0afcbde2d167db7201b","date_created":"2026-05-07T05:48:23Z","file_name":"2026_CellREports_OoLEN1.pdf","content_type":"application/pdf","date_updated":"2026-05-07T05:48:23Z","file_size":3535247,"file_id":"21831"}],"doi":"10.1016/j.xcrp.2026.103212","day":"15","oa":1,"month":"04","publisher":"Cell Press","file_date_updated":"2026-05-07T05:48:23Z","date_published":"2026-04-15T00:00:00Z","has_accepted_license":"1","article_processing_charge":"Yes","fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.xcrp.2026.103212","tmp":{"image":"/images/cc_by_nc_nd.png","name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)","short":"CC BY-NC-ND (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode"},"ddc":["570"],"year":"2026","quality_controlled":"1","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 7"},{"acknowledgement":"This work is a collaborative effort of the titled authors as part of the Origin of Life Early Career Network (OoLEN). Understanding the processes relevant to the OoL demands theoretical frameworks that can connect processes across scales, from microscopic dynamics to emergent levels of organization. While experimental studies generate a wealth of data, theoretical and computational approaches provide the structure necessary to interpret and generalize these findings. In Part 1, we examined the most widely used experimental techniques in the field. Here, we focus on the mathematical, physical, and computational techniques used to model phenomena relevant to life’s origin(s). We discuss methods ranging from quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics to chemical reaction networks, autocatalysis, and evolutionary modeling, as well as information-theoretic and phylogenetic approaches that link chemical and biological organization. We further highlight emerging trends such as synthetic biology, omics-based methods, and laboratory automation as novel points of contact for theory-experiment integration. Ultimately, we aim to provide an educational tool that can facilitate more post-disciplinary collaborations in OoL research by helping scientists understand what they can do about the problem of life’s origins, rather than telling them how to think about it.","lang":"eng"}],"oa_version":"Published Version","type":"journal_article","article_type":"original","author":[{"full_name":"Asche, Silke","last_name":"Asche","first_name":"Silke"},{"first_name":"Carla","last_name":"Bautista","full_name":"Bautista, Carla"},{"last_name":"Blanco","first_name":"Celia","full_name":"Blanco, Celia"},{"last_name":"Boulesteix","first_name":"David","full_name":"Boulesteix, David"},{"full_name":"Champagne-Ruel, Alexandre","last_name":"Champagne-Ruel","first_name":"Alexandre"},{"first_name":"Cole","last_name":"Mathis","full_name":"Mathis, Cole"},{"full_name":"Markovitch, Omer","last_name":"Markovitch","first_name":"Omer"},{"first_name":"Zhen","last_name":"Peng","full_name":"Peng, Zhen"},{"first_name":"Avinash Vicholous","last_name":"Dass","full_name":"Dass, Avinash Vicholous"},{"last_name":"Adams","first_name":"Alyssa","full_name":"Adams, Alyssa"},{"full_name":"Camprubi, Eloi","first_name":"Eloi","last_name":"Camprubi"},{"first_name":"Enrico Sandro","last_name":"Colizzi","full_name":"Colizzi, Enrico Sandro"},{"full_name":"Colón-Santos, Stephanie","first_name":"Stephanie","last_name":"Colón-Santos"},{"full_name":"Dromiack, Hannah","last_name":"Dromiack","first_name":"Hannah"},{"last_name":"Erastova","first_name":"Valentina","full_name":"Erastova, Valentina"},{"full_name":"Garcia, Amanda","last_name":"Garcia","first_name":"Amanda"},{"last_name":"Grimaud","first_name":"Ghjuvan","full_name":"Grimaud, Ghjuvan"},{"full_name":"Halpern, Aaron","first_name":"Aaron","last_name":"Halpern"},{"full_name":"Harrison, Stuart A.","first_name":"Stuart A.","last_name":"Harrison"},{"last_name":"Jordan","first_name":"Seán F.","full_name":"Jordan, Seán F."},{"last_name":"Jia","first_name":"Tony Z.","full_name":"Jia, Tony Z."},{"full_name":"Kahana, Amit","first_name":"Amit","last_name":"Kahana"},{"full_name":"Kolchinsky, Artemy","last_name":"Kolchinsky","first_name":"Artemy"},{"last_name":"Moron-Garcia","first_name":"Odin","full_name":"Moron-Garcia, Odin"},{"full_name":"Mizuuchi, Ryo","first_name":"Ryo","last_name":"Mizuuchi"},{"full_name":"Nan, Jingbo","last_name":"Nan","first_name":"Jingbo"},{"full_name":"Orlova, Yuliia","first_name":"Yuliia","last_name":"Orlova"},{"full_name":"Pearce, Ben K.D.","first_name":"Ben K.D.","last_name":"Pearce"},{"last_name":"Paschek","first_name":"Klaus","full_name":"Paschek, Klaus"},{"full_name":"Preiner, Martina","first_name":"Martina","last_name":"Preiner"},{"full_name":"Pinna, Silvana","first_name":"Silvana","last_name":"Pinna"},{"first_name":"Eduardo","last_name":"Rodríguez-Román","full_name":"Rodríguez-Román, Eduardo"},{"full_name":"Schwander, Loraine","first_name":"Loraine","last_name":"Schwander"},{"id":"36996868-4916-11f1-8c9d-c0c901467b61","first_name":"Siddhant","last_name":"Sharma","full_name":"Sharma, Siddhant"},{"full_name":"Smith, Harrison B.","first_name":"Harrison B.","last_name":"Smith"},{"full_name":"Vieira, Andrey","first_name":"Andrey","last_name":"Vieira"},{"full_name":"Xavier, Joana C.","first_name":"Joana C.","last_name":"Xavier"}],"status":"public","date_created":"2026-04-19T22:07:50Z","title":"What it takes to solve the origins of life: An integrated review. However, molecular markers for centrally projecting PVH neuron populations remain largely undefined, and a complete census of PVH cell types has not been established. Therefore, we performed extensive single-cell/nucleus RNA sequencing to catalog PVH neuron subtypes and multiplexed error-robust fluorescence in situ hybridization (MERFISH) to map them spatially. Our spatial transcriptomic atlas resolves 26 Sim1+ and 29 GABAergic neuron populations from the PVH and surrounding areas. Additionally, projection-based profiling identified neurons that project to the parabrachial region (PB) and spinal cord, helping to determine PVH populations that regulate satiety and sympathetic nervous system activity, respectively. Notably, activation of PB-projecting PVH neurons expressing Brs3 reduces food intake, and silencing them causes obesity. Together, this atlas contributes high-resolution PVH spatial and circuit-based gene expression profiles, representing a valuable resource for the field of homeostasis.","lang":"eng"}],"oa_version":"Published Version","type":"journal_article","article_type":"original","author":[{"last_name":"Li","first_name":"Yuxi","full_name":"Li, Yuxi"},{"full_name":"Butler, Trevor C.","first_name":"Trevor C.","last_name":"Butler"},{"full_name":"Nardone, Stefano","last_name":"Nardone","first_name":"Stefano"},{"first_name":"Christopher L.","last_name":"Jacobs","full_name":"Jacobs, Christopher L."},{"last_name":"Douglass","first_name":"Amelia May Barnett","id":"de5f6fda-80fb-11ef-996f-a8c4ecd8e289","orcid":"0000-0001-5398-6473","full_name":"Douglass, Amelia May Barnett"},{"first_name":"Joseph C.","last_name":"Madara","full_name":"Madara, Joseph C."},{"last_name":"McDonough","first_name":"Miriam C.","full_name":"McDonough, Miriam C."},{"full_name":"Tao, Jenkang","last_name":"Tao","first_name":"Jenkang"},{"full_name":"Lowenstein, Elijah D.","last_name":"Lowenstein","first_name":"Elijah D."},{"full_name":"Wang, Luhong","last_name":"Wang","first_name":"Luhong"},{"last_name":"Pant","first_name":"Deepti","full_name":"Pant, Deepti"},{"full_name":"Walker, Samuel J.","first_name":"Samuel J.","last_name":"Walker"},{"first_name":"Annette","last_name":"Wang","full_name":"Wang, Annette"},{"last_name":"Srinivasan","first_name":"Harini","full_name":"Srinivasan, Harini"},{"full_name":"Yang, Zongfang","last_name":"Yang","first_name":"Zongfang"},{"full_name":"Campbell, John N.","last_name":"Campbell","first_name":"John N."},{"full_name":"Tsai, Linus T.","first_name":"Linus T.","last_name":"Tsai"},{"full_name":"Lowell, Bradford B.","last_name":"Lowell","first_name":"Bradford B."},{"full_name":"Resch, Jon M.","last_name":"Resch","first_name":"Jon M."}],"date_created":"2026-04-16T13:51:29Z","status":"public","title":"A spatial and projection-based transcriptomic atlas of paraventricular hypothalamic cell types","_id":"21744","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"OA_place":"publisher","OA_type":"gold","publication_identifier":{"eissn":["2211-1247"],"issn":["2639-1856"]},"acknowledgement":"We would like to thank Drs. Despite the developmental importance of canalization, the molecular components linking auxin perception to the regulation of PIN auxin transporters remain poorly understood. Here, we identify TOW, a novel and essential component of auxin canalization that links intracellular auxin signaling with cell surface auxin perception. TOW is regulated downstream of TIR1/AFB-Aux/IAA-WRKY23 transcriptional auxin signaling. tow mutants exhibit defects in regeneration and de novo vasculature formation, along with impaired formation of polarized, PIN-expressing auxin channels. At the subcellular level, these mutants display disrupted auxin-induced PIN polarization and altered PIN endocytic trafficking dynamics. TOW localizes predominantly to the plasma membrane, where it interacts with receptor-like kinases involved in auxin canalization, including the TMK1 auxin co-receptor and the CAMEL-CANAR complex. TOW promotes PIN interaction with these kinases and stabilizes PINs at the cell surface. Together, our findings identify TOW as a molecular link between intracellular and cell surface auxin signaling mechanisms that converge on PIN trafficking and polarity, providing new insights into how auxin signaling regulates directional auxin transport for the self-organizing formation of vasculature during flexible plant development."}],"oa_version":"Published Using ensemble and single-molecule assays combined with cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), we studied the interaction between pioneer TFs OCT4–SOX2 and the human BRG1/BRM-associated factor (BAF) complex on nucleosomes. BAF engages TF-bound substrates in two orientations, placing OCT4–SOX2 at either the remodeler ENTRY or EXIT site. At the ENTRY site, OCT4–SOX2 initially coexists with BAF without structural interference. However, continued DNA translocation is expected to cause collisions with bound TFs, which can trigger remodeling direction reversals or may induce TF dissociation. To accommodate TFs at the EXIT site, BAF undergoes structural rearrangements, and ensemble assays reveal a nucleosome subpopulation translocating away from TF-binding sites. Moreover, single-molecule experiments show that nucleosome-bound BAF frequently changes remodeling direction, and we identify an ADP-bound remodeler conformation as a potential intermediate. Together, these findings reveal key aspects of the conformational dynamics and remodeling outcomes underlying BAF processing of TF-bound nucleosomes."}],"article_type":"original","oa_version":"Published Version","type":"journal_article","citation":{"ieee":"J. While mechanical forces such as actomyosin purse-string contraction and directional cell crawling have been implicated in driving HNP closure, how these forces organize local cell shape and motion to produce large-scale tissue remodeling remains poorly understood. Using live and fixed imaging of mouse embryos combined with cell-based biophysical modeling, we show that these force-generating mechanisms are insufficient to explain the reproducible patterns of cell elongation and nematic alignment observed at the HNP border. Instead, we show that local anisotropic stress and cytoskeletal organization are required to generate these patterns and promote midline cell motion. Our model captures key features of cell shape dynamics and emergent nematic order, which we confirm experimentally, including the alignment of actin fibers with cell shape and enhanced midline cell speed. Comparative analysis with chick embryos, which lack supracellular purse strings, supports a conserved link between tension generation and cellular patterning. These findings establish a physical framework connecting force generation, cell shape anisotropy, and tissue morphodynamics during epithelial gap closure.","lang":"eng"}],"article_type":"original","type":"journal_article","oa_version":"Published Version","page":"1903-1917.e5","citation":{"apa":"Perez Verdugo, F. Their activation by fasting is key for survival and is thought to be triggered by feedback when energy stores are low. However, we know that environmental cues can also regulate AgRP neurons since cues that predict future food intake rapidly inhibit AgRP neurons, but is the converse true: can the prediction of future fasting rapidly activate AgRP neurons? Here, we show in mice that such rapid fasting activation of AgRP neurons does occur. This rapid activation is driven by excitatory input from paraventricular hypothalamic (PVH) neurons expressing Sim2, which are bidirectionally sensitive to predictions of future energy state. Thus, cognitively processed contextual information conveyed by PVHSim2 neurons strongly activates AgRP neurons. Lastly, chronic silencing of PVHSim2 neurons causes persistent hypophagia. This PVHSim2-to-AgRP-neuron circuit, by anticipating and preventing negative energy balance, provides an important new dimension of hunger regulation."}],"_id":"21955","title":"A hypothalamic circuit for anticipating future changes in energy balance","date_created":"2026-06-08T09:24:25Z","author":[{"last_name":"Walker","first_name":"Samuel J.","full_name":"Walker, Samuel J."},{"full_name":"Lowenstein, Elijah D.","first_name":"Elijah D.","last_name":"Lowenstein"},{"full_name":"Douglass, Amelia May Barnett","orcid":"0000-0001-5398-6473","id":"de5f6fda-80fb-11ef-996f-a8c4ecd8e289","last_name":"Douglass","first_name":"Amelia May Barnett"},{"full_name":"Thomas, Callum M.P.","last_name":"Thomas","first_name":"Callum M.P."},{"last_name":"Madara","first_name":"Joseph C.","full_name":"Madara, Joseph C."},{"last_name":"Kucukdereli","first_name":"Hakan","full_name":"Kucukdereli, Hakan"},{"full_name":"Barbosa-Meillon, Eunice A.","last_name":"Barbosa-Meillon","first_name":"Eunice A."},{"full_name":"Tao, Jenkang","last_name":"Tao","first_name":"Jenkang"},{"full_name":"Resch, Jon M.","first_name":"Jon M.","last_name":"Resch"},{"full_name":"Lowell, Bradford B.","first_name":"Bradford B.","last_name":"Lowell"}],"status":"public","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","date_updated":"2026-10-20T09:00:02Z","citation":{"ieee":"S. Yet, how temperature regulates migration dynamics at the single-cell level has remained poorly understood. Using zebrafish embryos and mouse tissue explants, we found that temperature positively regulates leukocyte migration speed, exploration, and arrival frequencies to wounds and lymph vessels. Complementary 2D and 3D cultures revealed that this thermokinetic control of cell migration is conserved across immune cell types, independently of the 3D tissue environment. By applying precise (sub-)cellular temperature modulation, we identified a rapid and reversible thermo-response that depends on myosin II activity. Small physiological increases in temperature (1°C –2°C), as present during fever-like conditions, profoundly increased immune responses by accelerating arrival times at lymphatic vessels and tissue wounds. These findings identify myosin-II-dependent actomyosin contractility as a critical mechanical structure regulating single-cell thermo-adaptability, with physiological implications for tuning the speed of immune responses in vivo."}],"title":"Myosin II regulates cellular thermo-adaptability and the efficiency of immune responses","_id":"20859","status":"public","author":[{"first_name":"Iván","last_name":"Company-Garrido","full_name":"Company-Garrido, Iván"},{"first_name":"Alberto","last_name":"Zurita Carpio","full_name":"Zurita Carpio, Alberto"},{"full_name":"Colomer-Rosell, Mariona","last_name":"Colomer-Rosell","first_name":"Mariona"},{"first_name":"Bernard","last_name":"Ciraulo","full_name":"Ciraulo, Bernard"},{"first_name":"Ronja","last_name":"Molkenbur","full_name":"Molkenbur, Ronja"},{"first_name":"Peter","last_name":"Lanzerstorfer","full_name":"Lanzerstorfer, Peter"},{"full_name":"Pezzano, Fabio","last_name":"Pezzano","first_name":"Fabio"},{"last_name":"Agazzi","first_name":"Costanza","full_name":"Agazzi, Costanza"},{"full_name":"Hauschild, Robert","orcid":"0000-0001-9843-3522","id":"4E01D6B4-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","last_name":"Hauschild","first_name":"Robert"},{"full_name":"Jain, Saumey","first_name":"Saumey","last_name":"Jain"},{"full_name":"Jacques, Jeroen M.","last_name":"Jacques","first_name":"Jeroen M."},{"full_name":"Venturini, Valeria","first_name":"Valeria","last_name":"Venturini"},{"full_name":"Knapp, Christian","last_name":"Knapp","first_name":"Christian"},{"full_name":"Xie, Yufei","last_name":"Xie","first_name":"Yufei"},{"id":"4515C308-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","last_name":"Merrin","first_name":"Jack","orcid":"0000-0001-5145-4609","full_name":"Merrin, Jack"},{"full_name":"Weghuber, Julian","first_name":"Julian","last_name":"Weghuber"},{"first_name":"Marcel","last_name":"Schaaf","full_name":"Schaaf, Marcel"},{"full_name":"Quidant, Romain","first_name":"Romain","last_name":"Quidant"},{"first_name":"Eva","last_name":"Kiermaier","id":"3EB04B78-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","full_name":"Kiermaier, Eva","orcid":"0000-0001-6165-5738"},{"last_name":"Ortega Arroyo","first_name":"Jaime","full_name":"Ortega Arroyo, Jaime"},{"full_name":"Ruprecht, Verena","orcid":"0000-0003-4088-8633","last_name":"Ruprecht","first_name":"Verena","id":"4D71A03A-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87"},{"first_name":"Stefan","last_name":"Wieser","id":"355AA5A0-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","orcid":"0000-0002-2670-2217","full_name":"Wieser, Stefan"}],"date_created":"2025-12-28T23:01:27Z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"OA_type":"hybrid","OA_place":"publisher","publication_identifier":{"eissn":["1878-1551"],"issn":["1534-5807"]},"acknowledgement":"The authors would like to acknowledge the Super Resolution Light Microcopy and Nanoscopy (SLN) Facility of ICFO for their support with imaging experiments, Johann Osmond (Nanofabrication laboratory, ICFO) for the design and production of molds for generating confinement coverslip, Merche Rivas for cell culture of immune cells and further support from the CRG Core Facilities for Genomics and Advanced Light Microscopy. However, challenges remain for the efficient production and sharing of large-scale cryo-ET datasets. Here, we combined cryogenic plasma-based focused ion beam (cryo-PFIB) milling with recent advances in cryo-ET acquisition and processing to generate a dataset of 1,829 annotated tomograms of the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, which we provide as a community resource to drive method development and inspire biological discovery. To assay data quality, we performed subtomogram averaging of both soluble and membrane-bound complexes ranging in size from >3 MDa to ∼200 kDa, including 80S ribosomes, Rubisco, nucleosomes, microtubules, clathrin, photosystem II, and mitochondrial ATP synthase. The majority of these density maps reached sub-nanometer resolution, demonstrating the potential of this C. reinhardtii dataset as well as the promise of modern cryo-ET workflows and open data sharing to empower visual proteomics.","lang":"eng"}],"article_type":"original","oa_version":"Published Version","type":"journal_article","OA_place":"publisher","OA_type":"hybrid","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"issue":"1","scopus_import":"1","publication":"Molecular Cell","acknowledgement":"Calculations were performed at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and the Raven Supercomputer of the Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF) in Garching, Germany; at the sciCORE (http://scicore.unibas.ch/) scientific computing center at the University of Basel, Switzerland; and at Thermo Fisher Scientific, in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. When exposed to whistle playbacks featuring unnatural combinations of pitch and duration, nightingales demonstrate a flexible trade-off between pitch matching and temporal imitation, yet they are constrained by their vocal repertoire. They selectively adapted their vocal responses to approximate these novel stimuli, aligning them with their natural whistle repertoire. We developed a computational model of nightingale whistle-matching behavior that revealed a hierarchical organization of acoustic feature production. During whistle matching, the feature integration process is constrained by the duration of syllables, and pitch matching follows within this temporal framework, forcing a trade-off between the two features. Our findings reveal a complex interplay between the spectral and temporal domains that shapes song-matching behavior."}],"oa_version":"Published Version","type":"journal_article","article_type":"original","status":"public","author":[{"id":"1271b54b-dbcd-11ea-9d1d-d92da838fe2c","last_name":"Calderon Garcia","first_name":"Juan Sebastian","full_name":"Calderon Garcia, Juan Sebastian"},{"full_name":"Costalunga, Giacomo","last_name":"Costalunga","first_name":"Giacomo"},{"full_name":"Vogels, Tim P","orcid":"0000-0003-3295-6181","id":"CB6FF8D2-008F-11EA-8E08-2637E6697425","last_name":"Vogels","first_name":"Tim P"},{"full_name":"Vallentin, Daniela","first_name":"Daniela","last_name":"Vallentin"}],"date_created":"2026-01-14T12:00:29Z","title":"Interplay between syllable duration and pitch during whistle matching in wild nightingales","_id":"20986","PlanS_conform":"1","supplementarymaterial":"yes","date_updated":"2026-10-20T09:02:18Z","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","citation":{"apa":"Calderon Garcia, J. In rodents, the cerebellum contains relatively high glycogen levels, yet its cellular and subcellular distribution remains poorly defined. Using monoclonal antibodies against glycogen, we examined its distribution in the mouse cerebellar cortex. Glycogen was predominantly localized to Bergmann glia (BG) processes in the molecular layer and was also detected in Purkinje cells (PCs), the principal cerebellar neurons. To assess the functional significance of cerebellar glycogen, we analyzed behavior in mice lacking glycogen synthase 1 (Gys1) in BG or PCs using a floxed Gys1 line. Gys1 deficiency in either PCs or GFAP-positive cells reduced anxiety-like behavior, whereas combined deletion caused PC degeneration and ataxia. These findings reveal a critical role for glycogen metabolism in both astrocytes and neurons in cerebellar function."}],"type":"journal_article","oa_version":"Published Version","article_type":"original","date_created":"2026-03-29T22:07:07Z","status":"public","author":[{"last_name":"Akther","first_name":"Sonam","full_name":"Akther, Sonam"},{"last_name":"Lee","first_name":"Ashley Bomin","full_name":"Lee, Ashley Bomin"},{"first_name":"Ayumu","last_name":"Konno","full_name":"Konno, Ayumu"},{"full_name":"Asiminas, Antonis","last_name":"Asiminas","first_name":"Antonis"},{"last_name":"Vittani","first_name":"Marta","full_name":"Vittani, Marta"},{"first_name":"Tsuneko","last_name":"Mishima","full_name":"Mishima, Tsuneko"},{"first_name":"Hirokazu","last_name":"Hirai","full_name":"Hirai, Hirokazu"},{"full_name":"Meehan, Claire Francesca","first_name":"Claire Francesca","last_name":"Meehan"},{"full_name":"Duran, Jordi","last_name":"Duran","first_name":"Jordi"},{"first_name":"Joan","last_name":"Guinovart","full_name":"Guinovart, Joan"},{"last_name":"Ashida","first_name":"Hitoshi","full_name":"Ashida, Hitoshi"},{"full_name":"Morita, Tsuyoshi","last_name":"Morita","first_name":"Tsuyoshi"},{"full_name":"Baba, Otto","last_name":"Baba","first_name":"Otto"},{"last_name":"Shigemoto","first_name":"Ryuichi","id":"499F3ABC-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","orcid":"0000-0001-8761-9444","full_name":"Shigemoto, Ryuichi"},{"first_name":"Maiken","last_name":"Nedergaard","full_name":"Nedergaard, Maiken"},{"last_name":"Hirase","first_name":"Hajime","full_name":"Hirase, Hajime"}],"title":"Distribution and functional significance of rodent cerebellar glycogen","_id":"21502","PlanS_conform":"1","supplementarymaterial":"no","date_updated":"2026-10-20T09:02:33Z","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","citation":{"apa":"Akther, S., Lee, A. For decades, auxin has been proposed to promote PIN polarization, generating self-regulatory feedback mediating much of plant development, but mechanistic insight into this regulation is lacking. Here, we uncover an auxin-induced protein complex at the PM, containing auxin co-receptors transmembrane kinases (TMKs) and PIN1 auxin exporter, as the core machinery that underlies this feedback regulation. Auxin promotes PIN1 phosphorylation by TMKs, modulating PIN1 polarization and transport activity. We also provide evidence that PIN1-exported extracellular auxin is crucial for TMK activation and cell elongation, thus forming the simplest two-element self-regulatory feedback circuit. Thus, these findings offer direct mechanistic insights into a potential self-organizing circuit for auxin signaling and transport to ensure proper plant development in Arabidopsis."}],"page":"73-84","citation":{"mla":"Huang, R., et al. “TMK-PIN1 Drives a Short Self-Organizing Circuit for Auxin Export and Signaling in Arabidopsis.” Developmental Cell, vol. 61, no. 1, Cell Press, 2026, pp. 73–84, doi:10.1016/j.devcel.2025.09.009.","ama":"Huang R, Wang J, Chang M, et al. Unlike animals, they cannot flee and, rooted in one place, they must cope with whatever challenges arise — nutrient scarcity, drought, shade, wind or obstacles in the soil. Their extraordinary ability to survive in such unstable environmental conditions lies in their capacity to adapt. In response to environmental signals, plants can rapidly adjust the rate of organ growth, change the direction of growth, bend toward resources, or remodel their body architecture by promoting or suppressing the formation of new organs such as lateral roots, branches, leaves, or flowers. This unique developmental plasticity depends on chemical signals, plant hormones that serve as regulators and coordinators of endogenous molecular and cellular processes. Chief among these signals is auxin, a plant hormone central to nearly every aspect of plant life."}],"page":"R739-R744","citation":{"apa":"Leitner, V., & Benková, E. (2026).
