Later work by Sárközy,\r\nSelkow and Szemerédi showed that in fact Dirac graphs have many Hamilton cycles\r\nand perfect matchings, culminating in a result of Cuckler and Kahn that gives a precise\r\ndescription of the numbers of Hamilton cycles and perfect matchings in a Dirac graph\r\nG (in terms of an entropy-like parameter of G). In this paper we extend Cuckler\r\nand Kahn’s result to perfect matchings in hypergraphs. For positive integers d < k,\r\nand for n divisible by k, let md (k, n) be the minimum d-degree that ensures the\r\nexistence of a perfect matching in an n-vertex k-uniform hypergraph. In general, it is\r\nan open question to determine (even asymptotically) the values of md (k, n), but we are\r\nnonetheless able to prove an analogue of the Cuckler–Kahn theorem, showing that if\r\nan n-vertex k-uniform hypergraph G has minimum d-degree at least (1+γ )md (k, n)\r\n(for any constantγ > 0), then the number of perfect matchings in G is controlled by\r\nan entropy-like parameter of G. This strengthens cruder estimates arising from work\r\nof Kang–Kelly–Kühn–Osthus–Pfenninger and Pham–Sah–Sawhney–Simkin.","lang":"eng"}],"title":"Counting perfect matchings in Dirac hypergraphs","PlanS_conform":"1","publisher":"Springer Nature","oa":1,"article_type":"original","tmp":{"image":"/images/cc_by.png","short":"CC BY (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode","name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY 4.0)"},"doi":"10.1007/s00493-025-00194-8","date_updated":"2026-02-16T09:55:17Z","status":"public","arxiv":1,"file_date_updated":"2026-02-16T09:52:38Z","year":"2026","external_id":{"arxiv":["2408.09589"]},"_id":"21159","date_published":"2026-02-01T00:00:00Z","date_created":"2026-02-08T23:02:49Z","publication":"Combinatorica","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","type":"journal_article","day":"01","article_processing_charge":"Yes (via OA deal)"},{"OA_place":"publisher","ec_funded":1,"has_accepted_license":"1","issue":"2","OA_type":"gold","article_number":"P2.24","corr_author":"1","citation":{"apa":"Morawski, P., & Petrova, K. In this paper, we focus on complete bipartite graphs. First, we completely resolve the problem when H is the family of all spanning complete bipartite graphs on n vertices. We then focus on its subfamilies, that is, {Kt,n-t : t E T} for a fixed set of integers T c [[n/2]]. We prove that the odd-Ramsey problem is equivalent to determining the maximum dimension of a linear binary code avoiding codewords of given weights, and leverage known results from coding theory to deduce asymptotically tight bounds in our setting. To what extent can Q(ξ1, . . . , ξn) concentrate on a single value? This quadratic version of the classical Littlewood–Offord problem was popularised by Costello, Tao and Vu in their study of symmetric random matrices. In this paper, we obtain an essentially optimal bound for this problem, as conjectured by Nguyen and Vu. Specifically, if Q(ξ1, . . . , ξn) ‘robustly depends on at least m of the ξi’ in the sense that there is no way to pin down the value of Q(ξ1, . . . , ξn) by fixing values for fewer than m of the variables ξi, then we have Pr[Q(ξ1, . . . , ξn) = 0] ≤ O(1/√m). This also implies a similar result in the case where ξ1, . . . , ξn have arbitrary distributions. Our proof combines a number of ideas that may be of independent interest, including an inductive decoupling scheme that reduces quadratic anticoncentration problems\r\nto high-dimensional linear anticoncentration problems. Also, one application of our main result is the resolution of a conjecture of Alon, Hefetz, Krivelevich and Tyomkyn related to graph inducibility. For oriented stars F of degree exactly four, we show the only heroes in F -free digraphs are transitive tournaments, or possibly special joins of transitive tournaments. Aboulker et al. characterized the set of heroes of {H,K1+P2→} -free digraphs almost completely, and we show the same characterization for the class of {H,rK1+P3→} -free digraphs. Lastly, we show that if we forbid two \"valid\" orientations of brooms, then every transitive tournament is a hero for this class of digraphs.","lang":"eng"}],"title":"On heroes in digraphs with forbidden induced forests","file":[{"date_created":"2025-04-16T09:16:25Z","relation":"main_file","access_level":"open_access","creator":"dernst","file_size":1110657,"file_name":"2025_EuropJournCombinatorics_Carbonero.pdf","date_updated":"2025-04-16T09:16:25Z","success":1,"checksum":"2c75f78f40ebb93d16fe3765bda2905a","content_type":"application/pdf","file_id":"19577"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["0195-6698"]}},{"publisher":"Elsevier","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"A k-subcolouring of a graph G is a function f : V (G) → {0,...,k − 1} such that the set of\r\nvertices coloured i induce a disjoint union of cliques. The subchromatic number, χsub(G),\r\nis the minimum k such that G admits a k-subcolouring. Nešetril, ˇ Ossona de Mendez,\r\nPilipczuk, and Zhu (2020), recently raised the problem of finding tight upper bounds for\r\nχsub(G2) when G is planar. We show that χsub(G2) ≤ 43 when G is planar, improving\r\ntheir bound of 135. We give even better bounds when the planar graph G has larger girth.\r\nMoreover, we show that χsub(G3) ≤ 95, improving the previous bound of 364. For these\r\nwe adapt some recent techniques of Almulhim and Kierstead (2022), while also extending\r\nthe decompositions of triangulated planar graphs of Van den Heuvel, Ossona de Mendez,\r\nQuiroz, Rabinovich and Siebertz (2017), to planar graphs of arbitrary girth. Note that these\r\ndecompositions are the precursors of the graph product structure theorem of planar graphs.\r\nWe give improved bounds for χsub(Gp) for all p ≥ 2, whenever G has bounded treewidth,\r\nbounded simple treewidth, bounded genus, or excludes a clique or biclique as a minor.\r\nFor this we introduce a family of parameters which form a gradation between the strong\r\nand the weak colouring numbers. We give upper bounds for these parameters for graphs\r\ncoming from such classes.\r\nFinally, we give a 2-approximation algorithm for the subchromatic number of graphs\r\nhaving a layering in which each layer has bounded cliquewidth and this layering is\r\ncomputable in polynomial time (like the class of all dth powers of planar graphs, for fixed\r\nd). These objects can be viewed as natural generalisations of r-dimensional orders. The theory of ordered 2-matchings is well developed and has connections and applications to extremal and enumerative combinatorics, probability and geometry. On the other hand, in the case r≥3 much less is known, largely due to a lack of powerful bijective tools. Recently, Dudek, Grytczuk and Ruciński made some first steps towards a general theory of ordered r-matchings, and in this paper we substantially improve several of their results and introduce some new directions of study. Many intriguing open questions remain."}],"title":"Extremal, enumerative and probabilistic results on ordered hypergraph matchings","quality_controlled":"1","publisher":"Cambridge University Press","file":[{"date_updated":"2025-04-03T11:24:35Z","content_type":"application/pdf","checksum":"f396270ad78c1ed67095c8e5a66fca26","file_id":"19468","success":1,"file_size":630297,"access_level":"open_access","creator":"dernst","date_created":"2025-04-03T11:24:35Z","relation":"main_file","file_name":"2025_ForumMathSigma_Anastos.pdf"}],"type":"journal_article","user_id":"317138e5-6ab7-11ef-aa6d-ffef3953e345","publication":"Forum of Mathematics, Sigma","day":"14","article_processing_charge":"Yes","year":"2025","file_date_updated":"2025-04-03T11:24:35Z","date_created":"2025-03-20T12:59:14Z","_id":"19433","external_id":{"arxiv":["2308.12268"],"isi":["001444429200001"]},"date_published":"2025-03-14T00:00:00Z","OA_place":"publisher","citation":{"ista":"Anastos M, Jin Z, Kwan MA, Sudakov B. 2025. Let ni(G) denote the number of degree i vertices in G. A trivial lower bound on μ(G) is given by the expression n0(G)+⌈12n1(G)⌉. In the denser regime of random graphs, we show that if np−13logn−2loglogn→∞ and G∼G(n,p) then, with high probability, μ(G)=n0(G)+⌈12n1(G)⌉. For completion to pancyclicity, we show that if G∼G(n,p) and np≥20 then, with high probability, μ^(G)=μ(G). Strengthening this classical result, and answering a question of Aronson, Frieze and Pittel, we prove a central limit theorem in the same setting: the fluctuations in the matching number of a sparse random graph are asymptotically Gaussian. Our new contribution is to prove this central limit theorem in the subcritical and critical regimes, according to a celebrated algorithmic phase transition first observed by Karp and Sipser. Indeed, in the supercritical regime, a central limit theorem has recently been proved in the PhD thesis of Kreačić, using a stochastic generalisation of the differential equation method (comparing the so-called Karp–Sipser process to a system of stochastic differential equations). Our proof builds on these methods, and introduces new techniques to handle certain degeneracies present in the subcritical and critical cases. Curiously, our new techniques lead to a non-constructive result: we are able to characterise the fluctuations of the matching number around its mean, despite these fluctuations being much smaller than the error terms in our best estimates of the mean. We also prove a central limit theorem for the rank of the adjacency matrix of a sparse random graph."}],"publication_identifier":{"eissn":["1469-7750"],"issn":["0024-6107"]},"project":[{"grant_number":"101076777","name":"Randomness and structure in combinatorics","_id":"bd95085b-d553-11ed-ba76-e55d3349be45"}],"status":"public","date_updated":"2025-09-30T11:35:55Z","doi":"10.1112/jlms.70101","arxiv":1,"oa":1,"article_type":"original","tmp":{"legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode","name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0)","short":"CC BY-NC (4.0)","image":"/images/cc_by_nc.png"},"date_published":"2025-04-01T00:00:00Z","_id":"19554","external_id":{"isi":["001473087200024"],"arxiv":["2402.05851"]},"date_created":"2025-04-13T22:01:19Z","file_date_updated":"2025-04-15T13:18:43Z","year":"2025","article_processing_charge":"Yes (via OA deal)","day":"01","publication":"Journal of the London Mathematical Society","user_id":"317138e5-6ab7-11ef-aa6d-ffef3953e345","type":"journal_article","has_accepted_license":"1","OA_type":"hybrid","issue":"4","corr_author":"1","article_number":"e70101","citation":{"short":"M. The famousEdwards-Erdös bound states that any connected\r\ngraph on n vertices with m edges contains a cut of size at least m/2 + n−1/4 . Crowston,\r\nJones and Mnich [Algorithmica, 2015] showed that the MaxCut problem on simple\r\nconnected graphs admits an FPT algorithm, where the parameter k is the difference\r\nbetween the desired cut size c and the lower bound given by the Edwards-Erdös\r\nbound. This was later improved by Etscheid and Mnich [Algorithmica, 2017] to run\r\nin parameterized linear time, i.e., f (k) · O(m). We improve upon this result in two\r\nways: Firstly, we extend the algorithm to work also for multigraphs (alternatively,\r\ngraphs with positive integer weights). Secondly, we change the parameter; instead of\r\nthe difference to the Edwards-Erdös bound, we use the difference to the Poljak-Turzík\r\nbound. The Poljak-Turzík bound states that any weighted graph G has a cut of weight\r\nat least w(G)/2 + wMSF (G)/4 , where w(G) denotes the total weight of G, and wMSF (G)\r\ndenotes the weight of its minimum spanning forest. In connected simple graphs the\r\ntwo bounds are equivalent, but for multigraphs the Poljak-Turzík bound can be larger\r\nand thus yield a smaller parameter k. Our algorithm also runs in parameterized linear\r\ntime, i.e., f (k) · O(m + n).","lang":"eng"}],"title":"Linear-time MaxCut in multigraphs parameterized above the Poljak-Turzík bound","quality_controlled":"1","file":[{"date_updated":"2026-01-05T13:45:57Z","content_type":"application/pdf","checksum":"eab3f1834b0ba347b05ae9897729c0ad","file_id":"20957","success":1,"access_level":"open_access","creator":"dernst","file_size":448554,"date_created":"2026-01-05T13:45:57Z","relation":"main_file","file_name":"2025_Algorithmica_Lill.pdf"}],"publication_identifier":{"eissn":["1432-0541"],"issn":["0178-4617"]},"article_processing_charge":"Yes (via OA deal)","day":"01","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","type":"journal_article","publication":"Algorithmica","date_created":"2025-04-20T22:01:28Z","date_published":"2025-07-01T00:00:00Z","_id":"19603","external_id":{"isi":["001463103800001"]},"year":"2025","file_date_updated":"2026-01-05T13:45:57Z","OA_place":"publisher","has_accepted_license":"1","ec_funded":1,"related_material":{"record":[{"status":"public","id":"18758","relation":"earlier_version"}]},"citation":{"ista":"Lill J, Petrova KH, Weber S. 2025. Every edge in a graph G is colored in some of k>=2 colors. Two vertices u and v in G are said to be CA-connected if u and v may be connected using any subset of k-1 colors. CA-connectivity defines an equivalence relation on the vertex set of G whose classes are called CA-components.\r\nWe study the component structure of a randomly colored Erdős–Rényi random graph of constant average degree. We distinguish three regimes for the size of the largest component: a supercritical regime, a so-called intermediate regime, and a subcritical regime, in which the largest CA-component has respectively linear, logarithmic, and bounded size. Interestingly, in the subcritical regime, the bound is deterministic and given by the number of colors."}],"title":"Color-avoiding percolation on the Erdős–Rényi random graph","quality_controlled":"1","file":[{"file_name":"2025_AnnalesHenriLebesgue_Lichev.pdf","file_size":746588,"creator":"dernst","access_level":"open_access","date_created":"2025-06-23T11:59:22Z","relation":"main_file","checksum":"cca22d171b7affa010d17f5e793b0045","content_type":"application/pdf","file_id":"19875","success":1,"date_updated":"2025-06-23T11:59:22Z"}],"publication_identifier":{"eissn":["2644-9463"]},"arxiv":1,"DOAJ_listed":"1","status":"public","date_updated":"2025-06-23T12:01:36Z","doi":"10.5802/ahl.228","article_type":"original","tmp":{"image":"/images/cc_by.png","short":"CC BY (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode","name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY 4.0)"},"oa":1,"date_created":"2025-06-22T22:02:07Z","date_published":"2025-06-01T00:00:00Z","_id":"19859","external_id":{"arxiv":["2211.16086 "]},"year":"2025","file_date_updated":"2025-06-23T11:59:22Z","article_processing_charge":"Yes","day":"01","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","type":"journal_article","publication":"Annales Henri Lebesgue","has_accepted_license":"1","corr_author":"1","citation":{"short":"L.
