This convergence result does not require any regularity assumption on the measures, though experiments suggest that the rate is not sharp. Via an analysis of the duality gap we also obtain the convergence rates for the gradient of the optimal potentials and the velocity field under mild regularity assumptions. To obtain such rates we discretize the dual formulation of the dynamic optimal transport problem and use the mature literature related to the error due to discretizing the Hamilton-Jacobi equation."}],"file_date_updated":"2026-07-23T05:37:52Z","date_updated":"2026-10-02T11:17:26Z"},{"publication":"Discrete & Computational Geometry","author":[{"first_name":"Herbert","orcid":"0000-0002-9823-6833","last_name":"Edelsbrunner","id":"3FB178DA-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","full_name":"Edelsbrunner, Herbert"},{"last_name":"Pach","id":"E62E3130-B088-11EA-B919-BF823C25FEA4","full_name":"Pach, János","first_name":"János"}],"corr_author":"1","scopus_import":"1","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0179-5376"],"eissn":["1432-0444"]},"oa":1,"title":"Maximum Betti numbers of Čech complexes","doi":"10.1007/s00454-025-00796-5","type":"journal_article","month":"03","page":"597-624","volume":75,"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"department":[{"_id":"HeEd"}],"publication_status":"published","project":[{"grant_number":"788183","call_identifier":"H2020","_id":"266A2E9E-B435-11E9-9278-68D0E5697425","name":"Alpha Shape Theory Extended"},{"grant_number":"I02979-N35","_id":"2561EBF4-B435-11E9-9278-68D0E5697425","name":"Persistence and stability of geometric complexes","call_identifier":"FWF"},{"call_identifier":"FWF","_id":"268116B8-B435-11E9-9278-68D0E5697425","name":"Mathematics, Computer Science","grant_number":"Z00342"}],"quality_controlled":"1","related_material":{"record":[{"id":"17146","relation":"earlier_version","status":"public"}]},"date_created":"2025-11-19T09:44:58Z","supplementarymaterial":"no","article_processing_charge":"Yes (via OA deal)","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","ec_funded":1,"file_date_updated":"2026-07-27T08:11:05Z","abstract":[{"text":"The Upper Bound Theorem for convex polytopes implies that the p-th Betti number of the Čech complex of any set of N points in ℝ^d and any radius satisfies β_p = O(N^m), with m = min{p+1, ⌈d/2⌉}. We construct sets in even and odd dimensions, which prove that this upper bound is asymptotically tight. It lays the foundation for subsequent developmental events, including gastrulation, germ layer specification, organogenesis, and the establishment of the overall body plan. Two major modes of cleavage exist in the animal kingdom: holoblastic (complete) and meroblastic (incomplete) cleavage. Because holoblastic cleavage resembles canonical cytokinesis, its biochemical and mechanical basis has been extensively studied — an annular contractile ring forms at the equator and constricts in a purse-string-like manner, leading to the complete separation of two daughter cells. In contrast, although meroblastic cleavage occurs widely across the animal kingdom (e.g. in fish, reptiles, birds, and cephalopod molluscs), its mechanical basis remains largely unclear. During meroblastic cleavage, the cytokinetic furrow forms only at one pole and does not traverse the entire embryo, raising the question of how cytokinesis proceeds in the absence of a closed contractile ring. Moreover, the resulting daughter cells are not fully separated from the underlying yolk compartment, and how these blastomeres are subsequently cellularised remains unknown. This thesis takes the zebrafish as a model organism to address both questions. The first part characterises the biochemical and mechanical mechanisms underlying non-canonical meroblastic cleavage, revealing a two-phase process in which actomyosin cable contraction and cadherin-mediated membrane adhesion act sequentially to drive furrow ingression and invagination. The second part sheds light on the spatiotemporal dynamics by which individual blastomeres become cellularised, and uncovers a previously unrecognised contribution of central blastomeres to the yolk syncytial layer.","lang":"eng"}],"user_id":"8b945eb4-e2f2-11eb-945a-df72226e66a9","alternative_title":["ISTA Thesis"],"date_updated":"2026-10-05T08:56:10Z","OA_place":"publisher","fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.15479/AT-ISTA-22804","tmp":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0)","short":"CC BY-NC (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode","image":"/images/cc_by_nc.png"},"keyword":["meroblastic cleavage","cytokinesis","active gel theory","embryogenesis","zebrafish","adhesion"],"ddc":["596","532","572"],"has_accepted_license":"1","date_published":"2026-07-12T00:00:00Z"},{"corr_author":"1","author":[{"first_name":"Xin","full_name":"Tong, Xin","last_name":"Tong","id":"50F65CDC-AA30-11E9-A72B-8A12E6697425"}],"type":"research_data","doi":"10.15479/AT-ISTA-22777","title":"Towards a deeper understanding of meroblastic cleavage - supplementary movies","oa":1,"doi_confirm":"1","department":[{"_id":"GradSch"},{"_id":"CaHe"}],"month":"9","article_processing_charge":"No","date_created":"2026-09-03T10:48:15Z","related_material":{"record":[{"status":"public","relation":"used_in_publication","id":"22804"}]},"project":[{"_id":"9B861AAC-BA93-11EA-9121-9846C619BF3A","name":"NOMIS Fellowship Program"},{"grant_number":"851288","name":"Design Principles of Branching Morphogenesis","_id":"05943252-7A3F-11EA-A408-12923DDC885E","call_identifier":"H2020"}],"date_updated":"2026-10-05T08:56:09Z","file_date_updated":"2026-09-03T10:58:05Z","ec_funded":1,"user_id":"68b8ca59-c5b3-11ee-8790-cd641c68093d","tmp":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0)","short":"CC BY-NC (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode","image":"/images/cc_by_nc.png"},"fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.15479/AT-ISTA-22777","has_accepted_license":"1","date_published":"2026-09-04T00:00:00Z","OA_place":"repository","oa_version":"None","status":"public","_id":"22777","publisher":"Institute of Science and Technology Austria","year":"2026","citation":{"apa":"Tong, X. We present grid-based hydrodynamics simulations of circumbinary accretion with an energy equation that includes viscous and hydrodynamic heating coupled to radiative blackbody cooling in the high-Mach number regime. We find that, although gas accumulates and heats at the far edge of the circumbinary cavity, the regions that launch accretion streams remain comparatively cold, leading to potentially long-lived suppression of the binary accretion rate as the large-scale feeding rate is reduced towards the Eddington limit. This runaway nonaccretion problem, however, is weakened relative to locally isothermal solutions. Despite their low accretion rates, binaries interacting with disks in a nonaccreting phase can remain sufficiently luminous and variable at optical and near-infrared frequencies to be detectable in upcoming wide-field surveys such as LSST and the Roman Space Telescope. Because of the effective truncation of the surrounding disk, though, such systems are comparatively faint in high energy, photoionizing emission, and may therefore appear as intrinsically X-ray–weak active galactic nuclei with weak or absent emission line features. We additionally suggest an update to grid-based sink prescriptions for approximating mass loss across an unresolved horizon when including an energy conservation equation."}],"file_date_updated":"2026-10-06T10:44:15Z","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87"},{"publication_identifier":{"eissn":["2050-7496"],"issn":["2050-7488"]},"title":"Lattice-level defect engineering of dense Mn2O3 hosts unlocks fast H+/Zn2+ storage and long-life aqueous zinc-ion batteries","doi":"10.1039/d6ta05844b","type":"journal_article","scopus_import":"1","publication":"Journal of Materials Chemistry A","author":[{"last_name":"Yu","full_name":"Yu, Ao","first_name":"Ao"},{"last_name":"Chang","full_name":"Chang, Xingqi","first_name":"Xingqi"},{"last_name":"Lu","full_name":"Lu, Xuan","first_name":"Xuan"},{"full_name":"He, Ren","last_name":"He","id":"366c4efa-f61c-11f0-808b-d12a4547ac69","first_name":"Ren"},{"first_name":"Linlin","last_name":"Yang","full_name":"Yang, Linlin"},{"last_name":"Chai","full_name":"Chai, Jiali","first_name":"Jiali"},{"last_name":"Bi","full_name":"Bi, Xiaoyu","first_name":"Xiaoyu"},{"first_name":"Jesús","last_name":"Chacón-Borrero","full_name":"Chacón-Borrero, Jesús"},{"first_name":"Karol V.","last_name":"Mejia-Centeno","full_name":"Mejia-Centeno, Karol V."},{"full_name":"Llorca, Jordi","last_name":"Llorca","first_name":"Jordi"},{"last_name":"Villalobos-Portillo","full_name":"Villalobos-Portillo, Eduardo","first_name":"Eduardo"},{"first_name":"Qirong","full_name":"Liu, Qirong","last_name":"Liu"},{"last_name":"Shang","full_name":"Shang, Jian","first_name":"Jian"},{"first_name":"Andreu","last_name":"Cabot","full_name":"Cabot, Andreu"}],"date_created":"2026-09-20T22:01:48Z","supplementarymaterial":"yes","article_processing_charge":"No","quality_controlled":"1","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"department":[{"_id":"MaIb"}],"publication_status":"epub_ahead","month":"08","OA_type":"closed access","date_published":"2026-08-31T00:00:00Z","article_type":"original","fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.1039/d6ta05844b","date_updated":"2026-10-06T10:34:27Z","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","abstract":[{"text":"Manganese-based aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) have emerged as promising candidates for large-scale energy storage owing to their low cost, intrinsic safety, and the abundance of constituent elements. However, their practical deployment is still restricted by severe capacity fading caused by Jahn–Teller-induced structural instability and sluggish Zn2+ transport in the cathode. Although surface coating, heteroatom doping, and structural regulation have been widely explored to improve Mn-based cathodes, these approaches may suffer from increased interfacial resistance, compositional complexity, or limited control over the intrinsic electronic structure. In this context, oxygen-vacancy engineering offers a more direct route to modulate local coordination environments and accelerate Zn2+/H+ storage kinetics. Herein, lattice-level defect engineering of a dense Mn2O3 host is achieved through a metal–organic framework-derived synthesis followed by mild secondary annealing. The introduced oxygen vacancies regulate the local electronic structure and coordination environment, thereby facilitating Zn2+ diffusion, accelerating charge-transfer kinetics, and improving electrochemical reversibility. Combined experimental and theoretical investigations further show that oxygen-vacancy engineering enhances electronic conductivity, reduces the Zn2+ migration barrier, and enables a reversible dual-ion storage mechanism involving both H+ and Zn2+. Benefiting from these effects, the Zn‖Vo-Mn2O3 battery delivers a high specific capacity of 359 mAh g−1 at 0.3 A g−1, maintains 210 mAh g−1 at 6 A g−1, and retains 74.3% of its capacity after 10 000 cycles at 12 A g−1 after only 150 s of initial preconditioning. This work highlights oxygen-vacancy engineering as an effective route to enhancing the kinetic and structural stability of Mn-based cathodes for advanced AZIBs.","lang":"eng"}],"dataavailabilitystatement":"The data that support the findings of this study are available within the manuscript and the corresponding supplementary information (SI). Here, we show that alkali ions introduced during the solution synthesis of SnSe are retained through particle isolation and continue to influence the material during subsequent thermal processing, where they shape the evolution of the final polycrystalline material. Different SnSe powders were prepared using Li+, Na+, and K+ precursors, as well as tetramethylammonium (TMA+) precursors as a nonalkali reference for comparison, and all samples were consolidated under identical conditions. Although all three alkali ions were found in the matrix, at grain boundaries, and in segregated nanoscale regions, they partitioned differently and resulted in distinct grain sizes, defect distributions, and therefore transport properties. Li induced the strongest grain size heterogeneity and the lowest energy barriers, Na the best overall balance between carrier concentration and mobility, and K the broadest alkali-rich grain boundary regions along with the strongest interfacial penalty to charge carrier transport. These results show that residual alkali ions are not just remnants of solution synthesis but active determinants of microstructure and thermoelectric performance in SnSe.","lang":"eng"}],"file_date_updated":"2026-10-06T12:11:04Z","ec_funded":1,"date_updated":"2026-10-06T12:16:03Z","project":[{"_id":"9B8F7476-BA93-11EA-9121-9846C619BF3A","name":"HighTE: The Werner Siemens Laboratory for the High Throughput Discovery of Semiconductors for Waste Heat Recovery"},{"grant_number":"101034413","call_identifier":"H2020","_id":"fc2ed2f7-9c52-11eb-aca3-c01059dda49c","name":"IST-BRIDGE: International postdoctoral program"},{"_id":"260C2330-B435-11E9-9278-68D0E5697425","name":"ISTplus - Postdoctoral Fellowships","call_identifier":"H2020","grant_number":"754411"}],"quality_controlled":"1","date_created":"2026-09-21T10:33:48Z","supplementarymaterial":"yes","article_processing_charge":"Yes (via OA deal)","month":"09","page":"9323–9332","department":[{"_id":"MaIb"},{"_id":"GradSch"},{"_id":"NanoFab"}],"volume":38,"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publication_status":"published","publication_identifier":{"issn":["0897-4756"],"eissn":["1520-5002"]},"pmid":1,"oa":1,"title":"Alkali ions retained from synthesis govern microstructure and transport in solution-processed SnSe","doi":"10.1021/acs.chemmater.6c01284","type":"journal_article","publication":"Chemistry of Materials","author":[{"full_name":"Fiedler, Christine","id":"bd3fceba-dc74-11ea-a0a7-c17f71817366","last_name":"Fiedler","first_name":"Christine"},{"id":"03a7e858-01b1-11ec-8b71-99ae6c4a05bc","last_name":"Horta","full_name":"Horta, Sharona","first_name":"Sharona"},{"first_name":"Navita","orcid":"0000-0001-7408-8197","full_name":"Navita, Navita","last_name":"Navita","id":"6ebe278d-ba0b-11ee-8184-f34cdc671de4"},{"first_name":"Krishnendu","full_name":"Maji, Krishnendu","id":"76bc9e9f-ba0b-11ee-8184-90edabd17a58","last_name":"Maji"},{"full_name":"Kleinhanns, Tobias","id":"8BD9DE16-AB3C-11E9-9C8C-2A03E6697425","last_name":"Kleinhanns","orcid":"0000-0003-1537-7436","first_name":"Tobias"},{"first_name":"Jordi","full_name":"Llorca, Jordi","last_name":"Llorca"},{"last_name":"Wang","id":"0d37923a-aca1-11ef-951f-fd411b71d5f0","full_name":"Wang, Qi","first_name":"Qi"},{"id":"1ffff7cd-ed76-11ed-8d5f-be5e7c364eb9","last_name":"Ramon","full_name":"Ramon, Maria Garcia","first_name":"Maria Garcia"},{"last_name":"Das","full_name":"Das, Sambit","first_name":"Sambit"},{"first_name":"Vikram","last_name":"Gavini","full_name":"Gavini, Vikram"},{"full_name":"Liu, Yu","id":"2A70014E-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","last_name":"Liu","orcid":"0000-0001-7313-6740","first_name":"Yu"},{"id":"43C61214-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","last_name":"Ibáñez","full_name":"Ibáñez, Maria","orcid":"0000-0001-5013-2843","first_name":"Maria"}],"corr_author":"1","scopus_import":"1"},{"date_created":"2026-09-22T05:41:01Z","supplementarymaterial":"yes","article_processing_charge":"Yes","quality_controlled":"1","department":[{"_id":"MaRo"}],"volume":6,"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publication_status":"published","month":"09","publication_identifier":{"eissn":["2635-0041"]},"pmid":1,"oa":1,"title":"MAJA: Multivariate Bayesian model for discovery of shared epigenetic pathways across human phenotypes","doi":"10.1093/bioadv/vbag231","type":"journal_article","article_number":"vbag231","corr_author":"1","scopus_import":"1","publication":"Bioinformatics Advances","author":[{"orcid":"0000-0002-5636-9259","first_name":"Ilse","id":"30d4014e-7753-11eb-b44b-db6d61112e73","last_name":"Krätschmer","full_name":"Krätschmer, Ilse"},{"full_name":"Smith, Hannah M","last_name":"Smith","first_name":"Hannah M"},{"first_name":"Daniel L","full_name":"McCartney, Daniel L","last_name":"McCartney"},{"full_name":"Bernabeu, Elena","last_name":"Bernabeu","first_name":"Elena"},{"full_name":"Mahmoudi, Mahdi","last_name":"Mahmoudi","first_name":"Mahdi"},{"first_name":"Archie","full_name":"Campbell, Archie","last_name":"Campbell"},{"last_name":"Corley","full_name":"Corley, Janie","first_name":"Janie"},{"first_name":"Sarah E","last_name":"Harris","full_name":"Harris, Sarah E"},{"first_name":"Simon R","full_name":"Cox, Simon R","last_name":"Cox"},{"first_name":"Riccardo E","last_name":"Marioni","full_name":"Marioni, Riccardo E"},{"last_name":"Robinson","id":"E5D42276-F5DA-11E9-8E24-6303E6697425","full_name":"Robinson, Matthew Richard","orcid":"0000-0001-8982-8813","first_name":"Matthew Richard"}],"acknowledged_ssus":[{"_id":"ScienComp"}],"dataavailabilitystatement":"Access to the data is available with appropriate permission from the Generation Scotland Access Committee. However, most proposed association testing methods consider only marginal effects of each feature on a single outcome variable and are not set up to handle highly correlated, continuous data. Here, we introduce MAJA, a method to learn shared and outcome-specific effects for multiple traits in multi-omics data. MAJA determines the unique contribution of individual loci, genes, or molecular pathways to variation in one or more traits, conditional on all other measured “omics” data genome-wide. Simulations show MAJA accurately finds shared and distinct associations between omics-data and multiple traits and estimates omics-specific (co)variances, allowing for sparsity and correlations within the data. Applying MAJA to 12 outcome traits in Generation Scotland methylation data (n = 18 264), we find novel shared epigenetic probes among cholesterol metabolism, osteoarthritis, blood pressure and asthma. In contrast to marginal testing, we find only 10 CpG probes with significant effects above the genome-wide background. This highlights the need for joint association testing in highly correlated methylation data from whole blood and for studies of increased sample size in order to refine epigenomic associations in observational data.","lang":"eng"}],"file_date_updated":"2026-10-06T12:49:18Z"},{"OA_place":"publisher","DOAJ_listed":"1","fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.1126/sciadv.aed0587","article_type":"original","tmp":{"image":"/images/cc_by.png","short":"CC BY (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode","name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY 4.0)"},"ddc":["570"],"OA_type":"gold","PlanS_conform":"1","has_accepted_license":"1","date_published":"2026-09-09T00:00:00Z","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"Although studies of tumor invasion have mainly emphasized the evolution of genetic and epigenetic heterogeneity, cellular behaviors also depend on the physical microenvironment. Yet, the tumor microenvironment is both complex and continuously remodeled, making it hard to rigorously test its causal influence on tumor dissemination. Here, we adopted a reductionist approach to studying tumor cell invasion in microengineered environments of tunable patterned geometries. We find that not only the presence of obstacles but more unexpectedly their spatial disorder causes a drastic shift from a collective to a single-cell mode of invasion—comparable in strength to loss of cell-cell adhesion. Combining live-imaging and perturbation experiments with minimal biophysical modeling, we demonstrate that cell dissemination results both from local geometrical constraints and a global integration of spatial disorder over time. We identify generic universality classes of invasion dynamics dependent on environmental geometry, enabling us to identify quantitative physical principles for tumor dissemination."}],"file_date_updated":"2026-10-06T11:30:48Z","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","date_updated":"2026-10-06T11:36:34Z","file":[{"file_id":"23062","success":1,"file_name":"2026_ScienceAdv_Dunajova.pdf","date_created":"2026-10-06T11:30:48Z","file_size":11691064,"relation":"main_file","access_level":"open_access","checksum":"79f419b659650a39b3dfa58c782690a8","date_updated":"2026-10-06T11:30:48Z","content_type":"application/pdf","creator":"dernst"}],"intvolume":" 12","external_id":{"pmid":["42715298"]},"issue":"37","acknowledged_ssus":[{"_id":"Bio"},{"_id":"LifeSc"}],"dataavailabilitystatement":" All data and code needed to evaluate and reproduce the results in the paper are present in the paper and/or the Supplementary Materials and the associated data and code repositories. Within a Bogoliubov–de Gennes tight-binding framework, a superconducting-normal-superconducting (SNS) junction functionalized by adsorbed chiral molecules is modeled, where electrostatic gradients generated by the molecules induce spin-orbit coupling in the normal region. The equilibrium charge current-phase relation is found to remain largely insensitive to molecular chirality in symmetric, zero-field configurations. In contrast, the spin-polarized equilibrium current exhibits a pronounced chirality-dependent response, with opposite enantiomers producing distinct and anisotropic spin-polarized Josephson currents. The resulting handedness contrast can be enhanced through control parameters such as molecular orientation and the strength of the induced spin-orbit coupling. The temperature dependence of these currents further shows that the chirality-dependent signatures persist across a range of temperatures well below the superconducting critical temperature. These results identify Josephson interferometry as a phase-sensitive setting for probing chirality-dependent spin structure and highlight spin-polarized superconducting transport as a controlled route toward integrating chiral molecular functionality into superconducting spintronic devices.
"}],"user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","date_updated":"2026-10-06T13:25:35Z"},{"publication":"Journal of the AmericanChemical Society","author":[{"last_name":"Lee","full_name":"Lee, Woojung","first_name":"Woojung"},{"first_name":"Wanzhuo","id":"a3010425-87c8-11f0-8106-bec32bea74da","last_name":"Shi","full_name":"Shi, Wanzhuo"},{"first_name":"Junho","full_name":"Kwon, Junho","last_name":"Kwon"},{"first_name":"Jonathan","full_name":"Low, Jonathan","last_name":"Low"},{"first_name":"Sujun","last_name":"Wei","full_name":"Wei, Sujun"},{"full_name":"Yin, Xiaodong","last_name":"Yin","first_name":"Xiaodong"},{"last_name":"Campos","full_name":"Campos, Luis M.","first_name":"Luis M."},{"id":"9ebb78a5-cc0d-11ee-8322-fae086a32caf","last_name":"Venkataraman","full_name":"Venkataraman, Latha","orcid":"0000-0002-6957-6089","first_name":"Latha"}],"corr_author":"1","scopus_import":"1","title":"Redox-driven antiaromaticity enables multistate conductancein 1D topological insulators","oa":1,"publication_identifier":{"eissn":["1520-5126"],"issn":["0002-7863"]},"type":"journal_article","doi":"10.1021/jacs.6c15721","month":"09","page":"40536–40542","publication_status":"published","volume":148,"department":[{"_id":"LaVe"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"quality_controlled":"1","article_processing_charge":"Yes (via OA deal)","supplementarymaterial":"yes","date_created":"2026-09-22T05:46:30Z","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","abstract":[{"text":"Conjugated molecules with diradical character have emerged as promising building blocks for high-conductance single-molecule electronics because of their behavior as 1D topological insulators. However, the impact of antiaromaticity on these radical-based edge states has not been explored. Here, we introduce thiophene-based molecular wires that exhibit intrinsic diradical character in their ground state under ambient conditions and systematically investigate how their conductance responds to changes in aromaticity upon the oxidation of fluorene-based flanking moieties. Using scanning tunneling microscopy-based break junction (STM-BJ) techniques, we show that the conductance increases with molecular length in the neutral state, supporting one-dimensional topological behavior. We further examine the effect of oxidation on conductance through three complementary methods, revealing substantial conductance enhancements that we attribute to an increase in the antiaromatic character of the wires. Together, these findings establish a rational design strategy for highly conducting, electrochemically switchable molecular junctions, with implications for single-molecule electronics.","lang":"eng"}],"file_date_updated":"2026-10-06T13:10:49Z","date_updated":"2026-10-06T13:14:11Z","OA_place":"publisher","PlanS_conform":"1","OA_type":"hybrid","date_published":"2026-09-07T00:00:00Z","has_accepted_license":"1","ddc":["540"],"tmp":{"image":"/images/cc_by.png","short":"CC BY (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode","name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY 4.0)"},"fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.1021/jacs.6c15721","article_type":"original","day":"07","das_tickbox":"0","publisher":"American Chemical Society","acknowledgement":"This work was supported in part by the National Science Foundation under grant DMR-2241180 and the Institute of Science and Technology Austria. This study reports an improved SPE architecture consisting of a three-dimensional (3D) polyacrylonitrile (PAN)–Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 (LLZTO) fibrous skeleton infused with a polymer electrolyte ionic liquid (PIL), which promotes lithium-salt dissociation, accelerates Li+ transport, and enhances mechanical strength. The resulting SPE achieves an ionic conductivity of up to 0.51 mS cm−1. Li|Li symmetric cells using a 40-µm-thick SPE cycle stably for 2500 h at 0.2 mA cm−2 with a low overpotential of 30 mV. In Li|LiFePO4 (LFP) full cells, the electrolyte enables 86.8% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 0.5 C and maintains stable operation at 130 °C. Runtime Safety Assurance (RSA) methods for RL, such as Shielded RL, provide formal safety guarantees by preventing agents from taking unsafe actions and suggesting safe alternatives when necessary. However, previous surveys and reviews on RSA for RL have not thoroughly analysed the challenges and applications within the industrial sector. This study builds on existing state-of-the-art research on Shielded RL methods, emphasising its contributions to industrial applications and offering a domain-specific categorisation. This categorisation highlights the primary industrial domains utilising Shielded RL, detailing the optimised functions achieved by RL and the safety functions ensured by the shield. Additionally, the study presents a categorisation based on environmental features, enabling readers to assess the complexity of the problems addressed by the techniques studied. The shield’s attributes are analysed for each work, identifying key trends in their application, including their adaptability to new scenarios. Finally, a basic categorisation model for Shielded RL approaches, grounded in industrial safety standards, is introduced. This model serves as a baseline for future studies aiming to evaluate the maturity level of the works reviewed."}],"ec_funded":1,"date_updated":"2026-10-07T06:25:37Z"},{"abstract":[{"text":"Balancing selection, a form of selection that maintains genetic diversity, is difficult to detect, and the importance of balancing selection for the maintenance of genetic variation may be larger than often assumed. We model the possibility that the diversity-promoting effects of balancing selection extend to other loci that show sign epistasis with a locus under balancing selection. Rather than focusing on overdominance, as was done in previous efforts, we explore the effects of negative frequency dependence and show that this has important effects on the conditions under which the diversity-promoting effect of epistasis can occur in diploids. Our results show that not only recombination rate but also the dominance of sign epistasis are key parameters that determine the maintenance of polymorphism beyond the locus under direct balancing selection. We suggest that the effect we explore may play a significant role, especially when balancing selection acts on major effect loci.","lang":"eng"}],"user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","date_updated":"2026-10-07T06:38:02Z","OA_place":"publisher","fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tpb.2026.09.001","article_type":"original","tmp":{"image":"/images/cc_by.png","short":"CC BY (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode","name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY 4.0)"},"keyword":["Sign epistasis","Balancing selection","Within-population genetic variation"],"ddc":["500","570"],"date_published":"2026-09-17T00:00:00Z","OA_type":"hybrid","PlanS_conform":"1","has_accepted_license":"1","citation":{"ama":"Khudiakova K, Barton NH, Arnqvist G. We suggest that the effect we explore may play a significant role, especially when balancing selection acts on major effect loci.","lang":"eng"}],"user_id":"8b945eb4-e2f2-11eb-945a-df72226e66a9","tmp":{"name":"Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0)","short":"CC BY-NC (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode","image":"/images/cc_by_nc.png"},"fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.1101/2025.04.09.647826","date_published":"2026-04-23T00:00:00Z","OA_type":"green","OA_place":"repository"},{"project":[{"_id":"7c040762-9f16-11ee-852c-dd79eeee4ab3","name":"Coherent Optical Metrology Beyond Electric-Dipole-Allowed Transitions","grant_number":"F100403"}],"quality_controlled":"1","article_processing_charge":"Yes","supplementarymaterial":"yes","date_created":"2026-09-27T22:01:52Z","month":"09","publication_status":"published","department":[{"_id":"MiLe"}],"volume":8,"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"article_number":"033346","oa":1,"title":"Core-hole excitation dynamics of one-dimensional ultracold trapped fermions","publication_identifier":{"eissn":["2643-1564"]},"type":"journal_article","doi":"10.1103/njcx-z6np","publication":"Physical Review Research","author":[{"first_name":"A.","last_name":"Becker","full_name":"Becker, A."},{"full_name":"Koutentakis, Georgios","last_name":"Koutentakis","id":"d7b23d3a-9e21-11ec-b482-f76739596b95","first_name":"Georgios"},{"first_name":"P","last_name":"Schmelcher","full_name":"Schmelcher, P"}],"corr_author":"1","scopus_import":"1","issue":"3","external_id":{"arxiv":["2604.23785"]},"intvolume":" 8","file":[{"checksum":"7c886e062b11058f00c2049ba47fe3df","access_level":"open_access","relation":"main_file","creator":"dernst","date_updated":"2026-10-07T06:55:14Z","content_type":"application/pdf","success":1,"file_id":"23067","file_size":2520954,"date_created":"2026-10-07T06:55:14Z","file_name":"2026_PhysicalReviewResearch_BeckerA.pdf"}],"dataavailabilitystatement":"The data that support the findings of this article are not publicly available upon publication because it is not technically feasible and/or the cost of preparing, depositing, and hosting the data would be prohibitive within the terms of this research project. The bath is initially prepared in a particle-hole configuration by emptying a selected bath single-particle orbital, while the impurity is displaced with respect to the center of the bath confinement potential. The quench dynamics are initialized by suddenly switching on the impurity-bath interaction. To resolve the resulting dynamics, we combine two complementary ab initio approaches, namely, the MultiLayer MultiConfiguration Time-Dependent Hartree method for mixtures and a multichannel Born-Oppenheimer framework. We show that the postquench response is governed by the interaction strength, impurity confinement, mass imbalance, and the location of the initially prepared hole within the Fermi sea. The density evolution and impurity center-of-mass motion reveal a competition between mixing and demixing of impurity and bath, while the von Neumann entropy demonstrates the buildup of pronounced many-body correlations. Most importantly, the occupation dynamics of the initially emptied orbital identifies deep core holes as substantially more robust against refilling than bulk or edge vacancies. Our results establish core-hole excitations as robust dynamical many-body features in trapped ultracold fermions and provide a controlled route toward probing orthogonality response, correlation buildup, and hole refilling in real time."}],"date_updated":"2026-10-07T06:57:07Z"},{"project":[{"name":"Center for Correlated Quantum Materials and Solid State Quantum Systems: Probing topology in circuits and quantum materials","_id":"34a7f947-11ca-11ed-8bc3-c5dc2bbaae25","grant_number":"F8609"}],"quality_controlled":"1","supplementarymaterial":"yes","date_created":"2026-10-02T08:33:31Z","article_processing_charge":"Yes (via OA deal)","month":"10","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"volume":114,"department":[{"_id":"MaSe"},{"_id":"AnHi"}],"publication_status":"published","article_number":"194501","publication_identifier":{"eissn":["2469-9969"],"issn":["2469-9950"]},"title":"Plasmon decay and nonequilibrium steady states in Josephson junction chains","oa":1,"doi":"10.1103/cw3m-thsw","type":"journal_article","publication":"Physical Review B","author":[{"full_name":"Vigliotti, Lucia","id":"539e1e1a-e604-11ee-a1df-f02b018e5c8c","last_name":"Vigliotti","first_name":"Lucia"},{"id":"4AD6785A-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","last_name":"Higginbotham","full_name":"Higginbotham, Andrew P","orcid":"0000-0003-2607-2363","first_name":"Andrew P"},{"orcid":"0000-0002-2399-5827","first_name":"Maksym","last_name":"Serbyn","id":"47809E7E-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","full_name":"Serbyn, Maksym"}],"corr_author":"1","scopus_import":"1","external_id":{"arxiv":["2603.06371"]},"issue":"19","file":[{"relation":"main_file","checksum":"95db327e1005564d09334763789ad7ae","access_level":"open_access","date_updated":"2026-10-07T09:39:01Z","content_type":"application/pdf","creator":"dernst","file_id":"23069","success":1,"file_name":"2026_PhysicalReviewB_Vigliotti.pdf","file_size":2531016,"date_created":"2026-10-07T09:39:01Z"}],"intvolume":" 114","dataavailabilitystatement":"The data and the source code that support the findings of this paper are openly available at: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19456426.","das_tickbox":"1","day":"01","arxiv":1,"year":"2026","citation":{"ieee":"L. In this work, we consider a long JJ chain that effectively realizes a multimode cavity with nonlinear dispersion and additional multimode interactions. Individual modes appearing due to the finite size of the chain can be experimentally probed via microwave spectroscopy, both in equilibrium and in driven far-from-equilibrium settings. We study the role of multimode interactions in degrading internal coherence—observable as excess linewidth—in both equilibrium and driven regimes. Focusing on two-into-two mode scattering as the leading relaxation process, we classify the relevant scattering processes and derive their expected temperature- and frequency-scaling under equilibrium conditions. For experimentally relevant parameters, we show that the equilibrium decay rate is dominated by nonresonant processes, however, weakly driving a particular set of modes out of equilibrium enhances resonant scattering, leading to observable signatures in the distribution function and linewidth. Finally, in the strong nonequilibrium regime, we report a crossover to a qualitatively different nonequilibrium steady state.","lang":"eng"}],"file_date_updated":"2026-10-07T09:39:01Z","date_updated":"2026-10-07T09:42:41Z"}]
