We develop a new approach to fully characterize the dual-primal solutions in such non-commutative setting. The mathematical formalism is particularly relevant in quantum chemistry: numerical realizations of the many-electron ground state energy can be computed via a non-commutative version of Sinkhorn algorithm. Our approach allows to prove convergence and robustness of this algorithm, which, to our best knowledge, were unknown even in the two marginal case. Our methods are based on careful a priori estimates in the dual problem, which we believe to be of independent interest. Finally, the above results are extended in 1RDMFT setting, where bosonic or fermionic symmetry conditions are enforced on the problem."}],"user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","date_updated":"2026-04-08T07:00:03Z"},{"intvolume":" 62","file":[{"success":1,"file_id":"10188","date_created":"2021-10-27T12:57:06Z","file_size":4352640,"file_name":"2021_JMathPhy_Lauritsen.pdf","access_level":"open_access","checksum":"d035be2b894c4d50d90ac5ce252e27cd","relation":"main_file","creator":"cziletti","date_updated":"2021-10-27T12:57:06Z","content_type":"application/pdf"}],"issue":"8","external_id":{"arxiv":["2103.07975"],"isi":["000683960800003"]},"oa_version":"Published Version","status":"public","_id":"9891","publisher":"AIP Publishing","citation":{"short":"A.B. It mainly focuses on the Fröhlich polaron model, specifically to its regime of strong coupling. This model, which is rigorously introduced and discussed in the introduction, has been of great interest in condensed matter physics and field theory for more than eighty years. It is used to describe an electron interacting with the atoms of a solid material (the strength of this interaction is modeled by the presence of a coupling constant α in the Hamiltonian of the system). The particular regime examined here, which is mathematically described by considering the limit α →∞, displays many interesting features related to the emergence of classical behavior, which allows for a simplified effective description of the system under analysis. The properties, the range of validity and a quantitative analysis of the precision of such classical approximations are the main object of the present work. We specify our investigation to the study of the ground state energy of the system, its dynamics and its effective mass. For each of these problems, we provide in the introduction an overview of the previously known results and a detailed account of the original contributions by the author.","lang":"eng"}],"file_date_updated":"2022-03-10T12:13:57Z","ec_funded":1,"user_id":"ba8df636-2132-11f1-aed0-ed93e2281fdd","file":[{"access_level":"open_access","checksum":"e88bb8ca43948abe060eb2d2fa719881","relation":"main_file","creator":"dfelicia","content_type":"application/pdf","date_updated":"2021-09-06T09:28:56Z","file_id":"9944","file_size":1958710,"date_created":"2021-08-19T14:03:48Z","file_name":"Thesis_FeliciangeliA.pdf"},{"date_created":"2021-08-19T14:06:35Z","file_size":3771669,"file_name":"thesis.7z","file_id":"9945","creator":"dfelicia","date_updated":"2022-03-10T12:13:57Z","content_type":"application/octet-stream","checksum":"72810843abee83705853505b3f8348aa","access_level":"closed","relation":"source_file"}],"oa_version":"Published Version","status":"public","_id":"9733","publisher":"Institute of Science and Technology Austria","citation":{"chicago":"Feliciangeli, Dario. “The Polaron at Strong Coupling.” Institute of Science and Technology Austria, 2021. <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.15479/at:ista:9733\">https://doi.org/10.15479/at:ista:9733</a>.","mla":"Feliciangeli, Dario. <i>The Polaron at Strong Coupling</i>. The system is investigated in the Gross–Pitaevskii limit, where the scattering length a is so small that the interaction energy is of the same order of magnitude as the spectral gap of the Laplacian, and for temperatures that are comparable to the critical temperature of the ideal gas. We show that the difference between the specific free energy of the interacting system and the one of the ideal gas is to leading order given by 4πa(2ϱ2−ϱ20). Here ϱ denotes the density of the system and ϱ0 is the expected condensate density of the ideal gas. Additionally, we show that the one-particle density matrix of any approximate minimizer of the Gibbs free energy functional is to leading order given by the one of the ideal gas. This in particular proves Bose–Einstein condensation with critical temperature given by the one of the ideal gas to leading order. One key ingredient of our proof is a novel use of the Gibbs variational principle that goes hand in hand with the c-number substitution.","lang":"eng"}],"ec_funded":1,"file_date_updated":"2020-11-20T13:17:42Z","user_id":"c635000d-4b10-11ee-a964-aac5a93f6ac1","date_updated":"2025-04-14T07:27:00Z","intvolume":" 236","file":[{"relation":"main_file","checksum":"b645fb64bfe95bbc05b3eea374109a9c","access_level":"open_access","creator":"dernst","date_updated":"2020-11-20T13:17:42Z","content_type":"application/pdf","file_id":"8785","success":1,"file_size":704633,"date_created":"2020-11-20T13:17:42Z","file_name":"2020_ArchRatMechanicsAnalysis_Deuchert.pdf"}],"issue":"6","external_id":{"isi":["000519415000001"],"arxiv":["1901.11363"]},"publisher":"Springer Nature","acknowledgement":"Open access funding provided by Institute of Science and Technology (IST Austria). We prove that Haldane’s pseudo-potential operators, including their pre-factors, emerge as mathematically rigorous limits of such interactions when the range of the potential tends to zero while its strength tends to infinity. In a common approach the interaction potential is expanded in angular momentum eigenstates in the lowest Landau level, which amounts to taking the pre-factors to be the moments of the potential. Such a procedure is not appropriate for very strong interactions, however, in particular not in the case of hard spheres. We derive the formulas valid in the short-range case, which involve the scattering lengths of the interaction potential in different angular momentum channels rather than its moments. Our results hold for bosons and fermions alike and generalize previous results in [6], which apply to bosons in the lowest angular momentum channel. Our main theorem asserts the convergence in a norm-resolvent sense of the Hamiltonian on the whole Hilbert space, after appropriate energy scalings, to Hamiltonians with contact interactions in the lowest Landau level.","lang":"eng"}],"date_updated":"2025-07-10T11:55:04Z","external_id":{"arxiv":["2001.07144"],"isi":["000543030000002"]},"intvolume":" 181","file":[{"file_id":"8812","success":1,"date_created":"2020-11-25T15:05:04Z","file_size":404778,"file_name":"2020_JourStatPhysics_Seiringer.pdf","relation":"main_file","access_level":"open_access","checksum":"5cbeef52caf18d0d952f17fed7b5545a","creator":"dernst","content_type":"application/pdf","date_updated":"2020-11-25T15:05:04Z"}],"isi":1,"arxiv":1,"day":"01","publisher":"Springer","acknowledgement":"Open access funding provided by Institute of Science and Technology (IST Austria).\r\nThe work of R.S. was supported by the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement No 694227). The interaction is non-negative and scaled in such a way that its scattering length is of order ε/N, while its range is proportional to (ε/N)β with scaling parameter β∈(0,1]. We consider the simultaneous limit (N,ε)→(∞,0) and assume that the system initially exhibits Bose–Einstein condensation. We prove that condensation is preserved by the N-body dynamics, where the time-evolved condensate wave function is the solution of a two-dimensional non-linear equation. The strength of the non-linearity depends on the scaling parameter β. For β∈(0,1), we obtain a cubic defocusing non-linear Schrödinger equation, while the choice β=1 yields a Gross–Pitaevskii equation featuring the scattering length of the interaction. In both cases, the coupling parameter depends on the confining potential.","lang":"eng"}],"date_updated":"2025-04-14T07:44:05Z"},{"issue":"6","external_id":{"isi":["000544595100001"],"arxiv":["2002.08281"]},"intvolume":" 61","isi":1,"arxiv":1,"day":"22","publisher":"AIP Publishing","citation":{"mla":"Mayer, Simon, and Robert Seiringer. “The Free Energy of the Two-Dimensional Dilute Bose Gas. By analogy with the bipolaron, we introduce the biangulon quasiparticle describing two rotating molecules that align with respect to each other due to the effective attractive interaction mediated by the excitations of the bath. We study this system in different parameter regimes and apply several theoretical approaches to describe its properties. Using a Born–Oppenheimer approximation, we investigate the dependence of the effective intermolecular interaction on the rotational state of the two molecules. In the strong-coupling regime, a product-state ansatz shows that the molecules tend to have a strong alignment in the ground state. To investigate the system in the weak-coupling regime, we apply a one-phonon excitation variational ansatz, which allows us to access the energy spectrum. In comparison to the angulon quasiparticle, the biangulon shows shifted angulon instabilities and an additional spectral instability, where resonant angular momentum transfer between the molecules and the bath takes place. These features are proposed as an experimentally observable signature for the formation of the biangulon quasiparticle. Finally, by using products of single angulon and bare impurity wave functions as basis states, we introduce a diagonalization scheme that allows us to describe the transition from two separated angulons to a biangulon as a function of the distance between the two molecules."}],"ec_funded":1,"date_updated":"2026-04-08T07:26:09Z","date_published":"2020-04-27T00:00:00Z","fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.1063/1.5144759","article_type":"original","keyword":["Physical and Theoretical Chemistry","General Physics and Astronomy"],"arxiv":1,"day":"27","isi":1,"year":"2020","citation":{"ista":"Li X, Yakaboylu E, Bighin G, Schmidt R, Lemeshko M, Deuchert A. 2020. Although anyons are predicted to be realized in certain fractional quantum Hall systems, they have not yet been unambiguously detected in experiment. Here we introduce a simple quantum impurity model, where bosonic or fermionic impurities turn into anyons as a consequence of their interaction with the surrounding many-particle bath. A cloud of phonons dresses each impurity in such a way that it effectively attaches fluxes or vortices to it and thereby converts it into an Abelian anyon. The corresponding quantum impurity model, first, provides a different approach to the numerical solution of the many-anyon problem, along with a concrete perspective of anyons as emergent quasiparticles built from composite bosons or fermions. More importantly, the model paves the way toward realizing anyons using impurities in crystal lattices as well as ultracold gases. In particular, we consider two heavy electrons interacting with a two-dimensional lattice crystal in a magnetic field, and show that when the impurity-bath system is rotated at the cyclotron frequency, impurities behave as anyons as a consequence of the angular momentum exchange between the impurities and the bath. A possible experimental realization is proposed by identifying the statistics parameter in terms of the mean-square distance of the impurities and the magnetization of the impurity-bath system, both of which are accessible to experiment. Another proposed application is impurities immersed in a two-dimensional weakly interacting Bose gas."}],"ec_funded":1,"user_id":"c635000d-4b10-11ee-a964-aac5a93f6ac1","date_updated":"2025-04-14T07:26:54Z","fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.1103/physrevb.102.144109","article_type":"original","date_published":"2020-10-01T00:00:00Z"},{"date_updated":"2025-04-14T07:27:00Z","ec_funded":1,"file_date_updated":"2020-07-14T12:47:35Z","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"While Hartree–Fock theory is well established as a fundamental approximation for interacting fermions, it has been unclear how to describe corrections to it due to many-body correlations. In this paper we start from the Hartree–Fock state given by plane waves and introduce collective particle–hole pair excitations. These pairs can be approximately described by a bosonic quadratic Hamiltonian. We use Bogoliubov theory to construct a trial state yielding a rigorous Gell-Mann–Brueckner–type upper bound to the ground state energy. Our result justifies the random-phase approximation in the mean-field scaling regime, for repulsive, regular interaction potentials.\r\n"}],"user_id":"4359f0d1-fa6c-11eb-b949-802e58b17ae8","tmp":{"image":"/images/cc_by.png","short":"CC BY (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode","name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY 4.0)"},"fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s00220-019-03505-5","article_type":"original","has_accepted_license":"1","date_published":"2020-03-01T00:00:00Z","ddc":["530"],"oa_version":"Published Version","_id":"6649","status":"public","publisher":"Springer Nature","citation":{"ieee":"N. We derive a sequence of N-body functions which approximate the true many-body dynamics in L2(RdN)-norm to arbitrary precision in powers of N−1. We shall be concerned with some mathematical aspects of this complicated problem in many-body quantum mechanics. More specifically, we consider the dilute limit where the scattering length of the interaction potential, which is a measure for the effective range of the potential, is small compared to the average distance between the particles. We are interested in a setting with positive (i.e., non-zero) temperature. After giving a survey of the relevant literature in the field, we provide some facts and examples to set expectations for the two-dimensional system. The crucial difference to the three-dimensional system is that there is no Bose–Einstein condensate at positive temperature due to the Hohenberg–Mermin–Wagner theorem. However, it turns out that an asymptotic formula for the free energy holds similarly to the three-dimensional case.\r\nWe motivate this formula by considering a toy model with δ interaction potential. By restricting this model Hamiltonian to certain trial states with a quasi-condensate we obtain an upper bound for the free energy that still has the quasi-condensate fraction as a free parameter. When minimizing over the quasi-condensate fraction, we obtain the Berezinskii–Kosterlitz–Thouless critical temperature for superfluidity, which plays an important role in our rigorous contribution. The mathematically rigorous result that we prove concerns the specific free energy in the dilute limit. We give upper and lower bounds on the free energy in terms of the free energy of the non-interacting system and a correction term coming from the interaction. Both bounds match and thus we obtain the leading term of an asymptotic approximation in the dilute limit, provided the thermal wavelength of the particles is of the same order (or larger) than the average distance between the particles. The remarkable feature of this result is its generality: the correction term depends on the interaction potential only through its scattering length and it holds for all nonnegative interaction potentials with finite scattering length that are measurable. In particular, this allows to model an interaction of hard disks."}],"user_id":"ba8df636-2132-11f1-aed0-ed93e2281fdd","date_updated":"2026-04-08T07:25:40Z","alternative_title":["ISTA Thesis"],"OA_place":"publisher","tmp":{"image":"/images/cc_by.png","short":"CC BY (4.0)","legal_code_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode","name":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY 4.0)"},"fulldoi":"https://doi.org/10.15479/AT:ISTA:7514","has_accepted_license":"1","date_published":"2020-02-24T00:00:00Z","ddc":["510"]},{"year":"2020","citation":{"ieee":"C.
