Here, the diverse approaches that have so far been developed to control the self-assembly of nanoparticles using light are reviewed and compared. These approaches include functionalizing nanoparticles with monolayers of photoresponsive molecules, placing them in photoresponsive media capable of reversibly protonating the particles under light, and decorating plasmonic nanoparticles with thermoresponsive polymers, to name just a few. The applicability of these methods to larger, micrometer-sized particles is also discussed. Finally, several perspectives on further developments in the field are offered.","lang":"eng"}],"year":"2019","author":[{"last_name":"Bian","first_name":"Tong","full_name":"Bian, Tong"},{"last_name":"Chu","first_name":"Zonglin","full_name":"Chu, Zonglin"},{"last_name":"Klajn","first_name":"Rafal","id":"8e84690e-1e48-11ed-a02b-a1e6fb8bb53b","full_name":"Klajn, Rafal"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"day":"19","doi":"10.1002/adma.201905866","oa_version":"None","date_updated":"2023-08-07T10:23:41Z","type":"journal_article","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","status":"public","keyword":["Mechanical Engineering","Mechanics of Materials","General Materials Science"],"article_type":"original","_id":"13366","extern":"1","date_created":"2023-08-01T09:37:26Z","month":"11","publication_status":"published","publisher":"Wiley","external_id":{"pmid":["31709655"]},"publication":"Advanced Materials","issue":"20"}
