--- res: bibo_abstract: - Cell movement has essential functions in development, immunity, and cancer. Various cell migration patterns have been reported, but no general rule has emerged so far. Here, we show on the basis of experimental data in vitro and in vivo that cell persistence, which quantifies the straightness of trajectories, is robustly coupled to cell migration speed. We suggest that this universal coupling constitutes a generic law of cell migration, which originates in the advection of polarity cues by an actin cytoskeleton undergoing flows at the cellular scale. Our analysis relies on a theoretical model that we validate by measuring the persistence of cells upon modulation of actin flow speeds and upon optogenetic manipulation of the binding of an actin regulator to actin filaments. Beyond the quantitative prediction of the coupling, the model yields a generic phase diagram of cellular trajectories, which recapitulates the full range of observed migration patterns.@eng bibo_authorlist: - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Paolo foaf_name: Maiuri, Paolo foaf_surname: Maiuri - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Jean foaf_name: Rupprecht, Jean foaf_surname: Rupprecht - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Stefan foaf_name: Wieser, Stefan foaf_surname: Wieser foaf_workInfoHomepage: http://www.librecat.org/personId=355AA5A0-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87 orcid: 0000-0002-2670-2217 - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Verena foaf_name: Ruprecht, Verena foaf_surname: Ruprecht foaf_workInfoHomepage: http://www.librecat.org/personId=4D71A03A-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87 orcid: 0000-0003-4088-8633 - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Olivier foaf_name: Bénichou, Olivier foaf_surname: Bénichou - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Nicolas foaf_name: Carpi, Nicolas foaf_surname: Carpi - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Mathieu foaf_name: Coppey, Mathieu foaf_surname: Coppey - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Simon foaf_name: De Beco, Simon foaf_surname: De Beco - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Nir foaf_name: Gov, Nir foaf_surname: Gov - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Carl-Philipp J foaf_name: Heisenberg, Carl-Philipp J foaf_surname: Heisenberg foaf_workInfoHomepage: http://www.librecat.org/personId=39427864-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87 orcid: 0000-0002-0912-4566 - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Carolina foaf_name: Lage Crespo, Carolina foaf_surname: Lage Crespo - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Franziska foaf_name: Lautenschlaeger, Franziska foaf_surname: Lautenschlaeger - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Maël foaf_name: Le Berre, Maël foaf_surname: Le Berre - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Ana foaf_name: Lennon Duménil, Ana foaf_surname: Lennon Duménil - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Matthew foaf_name: Raab, Matthew foaf_surname: Raab - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Hawa foaf_name: Thiam, Hawa foaf_surname: Thiam - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Matthieu foaf_name: Piel, Matthieu foaf_surname: Piel - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Michael K foaf_name: Sixt, Michael K foaf_surname: Sixt foaf_workInfoHomepage: http://www.librecat.org/personId=41E9FBEA-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87 orcid: 0000-0002-6620-9179 - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Raphaël foaf_name: Voituriez, Raphaël foaf_surname: Voituriez bibo_doi: 10.1016/j.cell.2015.01.056 bibo_issue: '2' bibo_volume: 161 dct_date: 2015^xs_gYear dct_language: eng dct_publisher: Cell Press@ dct_title: Actin flows mediate a universal coupling between cell speed and cell persistence@ ...
