Here spatial gradients of chemical cues as well as gradients of mechanical substrate characteristics prove sufficient to attract single cells as well as their collectives. How such gradients present and act in the context of an organism is far less clear. Here we review recent advances in understanding how guidance cues emerge and operate in the physiological context.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2018-12-11T11:56:03Z","type":"journal_article","intvolume":" 30","month":"10","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"acknowledgement":"This effort was supported by the Intramural Research Program of the Center for Cancer Research, NCI, National Institutes of Health and the European Research Council (ERC).","status":"public","scopus_import":1,"date_published":"2014-10-01T00:00:00Z","day":"01","_id":"2158","department":[{"_id":"MiSi"}],"quality_controlled":"1","volume":30,"author":[{"full_name":"Majumdar, Ritankar","last_name":"Majumdar","first_name":"Ritankar"},{"id":"41E9FBEA-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","first_name":"Michael K","orcid":"0000-0002-6620-9179","full_name":"Sixt, Michael K","last_name":"Sixt"},{"first_name":"Carole","last_name":"Parent","full_name":"Parent, Carole"}],"oa_version":"Submitted Version","doi":"10.1016/j.ceb.2014.05.010","publication_status":"published","external_id":{"pmid":["24959970"]},"user_id":"3E5EF7F0-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","page":"33 - 40","publisher":"Elsevier","issue":"1","title":"New paradigms in the establishment and maintenance of gradients during directed cell migration","publist_id":"4848","oa":1}
