In the neostriatum, SPR immunoreactivity was detected in large and medium-sized aspiny neurons. Virtually all SPR-immunoreactive neurons in the neostriatum contained somatostatin (SS) or choline acetyltransferase (ChAT), but not parvalbumin. All SS- and ChAT-immunoreactive neurons in the neostriatum showed SPR immunoreactivity. The co-existence of SS and ChAT was, however, not found in single neurons expressing SPR immunoreactivity.
